"Rock Chic"

Yes, I loved it when it was new, exciting, edgy.. it was different, casual, the "i just woke up and still look this great" look but now? I'm bored.

Take a look on the highstreet and that's all you see.. people trying to be different to the point where everyone looks the same.

What happened to the glamorous women and men? What happened to polished hair, nail varnish that ISN'T chipped, heels that aren't scuffed?

I need re-inspiring and I'm struggling to find images of men and women on the streets, and celebrities with that old school glamour, or just their own polished sense of style.

Can anyone help post some images they have?

Here's a few I have.. they're pretty much all of the same people!

Hi everyone,
I think I am bad at searching because nothing came up on this topic for me to see.
I have just been asked out of nowhere to go to a few race meetings with someone and I have no idea what to wear. I don't really have any time to actually go into shops and want to get the stuff over the net.

I have been looking at net-a-porter today but i'm having trouble deciding what to get.
It is for spring racing carnival (and it is hot down here so nothing too warm), I have asked a milliner to make me a hat to start with and she said as long as I have my dress picked out by thursday she can make me something up in time. I am 5'6 and size US10/Uk14 has to be classic, beautiful and being the vain person that I am people have to ohhh ahh over my outfit:lol:,My limit would be about $1500 US per outfit (not including hat or shoes).Oh and I need 3 outfits all up.

Any help is much appreciated:flower::heart:

I've been invited to the gala premiere of 'Bright Star' in London, but as I've never been to something like this, I'm not sure what counts as appropriate wear. The dress code on the invitation simply says 'smart', but I'm not sure what would be too much - obviously it would be quite gauche for a civilian (such as myself) to turn up in a full-on Oscars dress (which I have no intention of doing, I hasten to add). But really, I was wondering what 'smart' exactly entails for this? As it's quite an elegant and serious period drama perhaps full length wouldn't be out of the question? On the other hand I am only twenty so it might look a little silly to be too OTT.

Please help, I'm absolutely clueless in this area and it's only four days away!

Equestrian style - what to wear around horses

I desperately am in need of outfit ideas to wear around horses. In day to day life I tend to go for nice tailored outfits and dresses but as I have horses, when I go up to the stables I find myself dressing like an absolute slob.
A) because I need comfortable clothes up there and,
B) because there isn't really anyone judging how I dress too much so I get lazy.

I want to change this around though and start actually getting dressed before I go to the stables and other equestrian competitions/events. Any outfit ideas and such? I really need some ideas for both summer and winter tops and also pants just to wear around that are comfortable and loose (other than jodhpurs). I really hate wearing jeans around because they are too restrictive to be doing so much bending and lifting and all the other stuff involved with horses.

Do you have any ideas or pics?

Many thanks.:flower:

'Personal style' is about what the person wants to wear, unaffected by expectations of other people or fear of being ridiculed... right

Under expectations of other people comes expectations and restrictions, if you like, of what is appropriate and inappropriate for someone to wear based on their age.

Do you believe that there is a line between edgy and inappropriate when it comes to age and personal style and that this line is one that we should try not to cross, or do you think that to "dress one's age" is a suppression of someone's personal style?

When I first thought about this, my issue was more with young people/kids dressing like adults rather than adults/elderly wearing things similar to what my high school friends wear to parties. And the example that springs to mind of a kid who imo dresses older than her age is Taylor Momsen.
I'm 17 and I think YES: there is a line between edgy and inappropriate when it comes to age and personal style, especially with kids dressing inappropriately. I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to personal style and I embrace a lot of peoples' ideas. There are heaps of under-18 style bloggers, models, celebrities who have amazing and edgy styles, but an outfit starts to cross the line when it ventures into '$lutty'...

Just my opinion, but I'd like to hear what you think about it. Discuss!
