Best glue for attaching feathers to leather

Hi lovelies, I was wondering whether any of you might have had some experience with gluing feathers to leather. What is the best gluing medium to use? How do you protect your work from becoming frayed in a few minutes? I was looking to transform a handbag and a pair of shoes to something like this:

I covered old leather clutch with feathers and used hot glue gun.

I recently made my own feather necklace attached to suede (see blog) and i used a hot glue gun. It stuck really well, but the glue got a bit messy!
I think you should speak to somebody at a craft store and ask their opinion on the different kinds of glue.
