DIY home projects...
a place for us all to share our own personal interiors projects...

i'll start...
*i just re-finished a gilded mirror...

inspired by the all white stores if martin margiela...
i painted it WHITE......
to give it a new life...

but then it was too white......
so i banged on it and scraped it with a spackle knife....

...

will post a pic once i have it hung...

I'm still working on my floors in the closet and hall/kitchenette... I'm really procrastinating, and I'm so exhausted after work... What I'd really like to do is rip out the entire kitchenette and re-do it... My building was built in 1929, and the kitchenette is more or less original. Of course it's been painted and fixed here and there during the years, but still. The stove scares me, it's the original gas one from 1929.

The mirror sounds fabulous, softie!

here is a detail of the mirror...
i am really happy with it...

tott- i know that once i get going...
i really get on a roll and if i like the way something turns out...
it usually inspires me to do more...
maybe if you just get started....you'll get inspired too?

i am now working on painting the kitchen...
i am going for a grey wall...
hopefull it will be done today....

*so many people have offered to help or given me numbers for someone to come and do it...
but i find there is something really therapeutic and satisfactory about doing it yourself...i get such a feeling of pride and ownership....

nothing can compare...

i now have a list of home improvement projects!!.......
loving it!!...

I know what you mean, it's a real high to see a finished project and know that you did it yourself! It might take a lot longer, but if you're not in a hurry to get it finished, why not do it yourself?

I'm also a perfectionist, and I've seen some "professional" work which just isn't that good. I feel I can do it better myself most of the time, honestly!

Serious electrical or *gas* work is best left to pros though... That stuff can kill you after all!

I just painted and refurbished an old bench we have. It ued to be unfinished birch wood with these ugly grey flannel pillow seats. I painted it with this see through white paint (so the texture of the wood is still visible) and covered the seats with Italian furniture fabric: red, yellow, magneta, and purple velvet flower/stripe relief on natural hard linen base. It looks great!
I was about to throw the bench away and I'm so glad I didn't because now it's nice to look at and useful. It took me three straight days to do it though.

I can post pics of the bench if you guys want me to. Unfortunately I don't have any "before" pics, but I guess you could use your imagination a bit
