I want to like the Vogue covers from the late 80s but I find them so disconnected from the content & the direction of the fashion & beauty presented. The editorials are wonderful & the cover could have easily come from that creative vision.

I really like the covers from this period, but you're right Kelly, a lot of times the covers weren't relevant with the material inside. Not sure what the strategy was behind that, but maybe, just maybe, they were wanting to showcase the new models?

I need to correct myself - some of my all time favourite covers are from this period. The covers featuring Louise Vyent; Susan Miner & Rachel Williams (87) are perfection to me. But I feel disappointed that there is no correlating editorial. Imagine a Avedon & Rachel Williams editorial would have been high fashion. But instead one gets a tease of a cover.
