Some of these are amazing and would look fantastic blown-up and framed. I love how artistic some of them are and the fact they're less provocative but still manage to be incredibly sexy.
I'm curious as to why Japanese Playboy had people like Eric Clapton and Miles Davis on the cover though, haha.
Just a reminder that the next issue of the US edition will celebrate its 55th Anniversary, with content that will look back over the years.
Before that, they've given us an old face on the new issue, Carol Alt for December 2008. I don't know whether this is a positive and tasteful cover showing that older women are still sexy, or Ms Alt's only way to remind the world that she still exists because no-one at Vogue is interested in someone 'old'.
Well, I think it's probably making some men's dreams come true, though about twenty years after they first wished to see it. And a Playboy payday never goes amiss for any retired model.

I vote for "Showing that older women are still sexy".I still see her on tv sometimes, she hasn't totally disappeared.
I think that is done in poor taste Alt is a stunner and they could have done much, much better with her, she is a model for gods sake! They made her look cheap and weird looking.
I love the old playboy covers they're so innocent and they leave more to the imagination makes me actaully want to see what is inside
Yup...It was actually a very romantic magazine back when- in the true sense of the word....Sophisticated, elegant- cocktails for two in a penthouse, cool jazz, beautiful, healthy girls, romantic weekends in the country and so on...An era that began to disappear after Penthouse and Hustler challenged them with their tasteless, graphic magazines...
Hi all - just wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to the woman who paved the way for Playboy (and all other similar mags) to be what it is today - Bettie Page. She passed away last night at the age of 85.
This is the issue she appeared in (January 1955):

And her now famous centerfold pic (nudity excluded):

In reference to her infamous bondage photos, Hugh Hefner was quoted as saying, "They were playful parodies that are now perceived as the early inspiration for Madonna's excursions into the realm of sexual perversion."
Bettie Page paved the road for women to express themselves sexually on a level never before expored. Let us all tip our hats to this reverent woman!

^^ Thank you for mentioning that! She was a trailblazer in American culture- something that Hefner picked up on right from the beginning...And she did it without lowering herself personally or making lots of enemies along the way- which is particulaly amazing considering the social conservatism of the day...
The 55th anniversary issue is here - the Jan 2009 issue - and I attach the cover shot of Carmen Electra, from playboy.com, I like the black-gold-red colour scheme and the way it's all about the back, rather than boobs or bums. It's almost tasteful, all things considered, though the amount of text is distracting, and I'm not sure where her legs are going.
