Blow dry tips???
Hi!
I have longish hair, and I donīt really like professional blowouts because they look too prissy, plus I donīt have the time or the patience. When I blow dry it myself I try not to use a brush, so I can keep some curls, but it goes too flat in no time. I cannot air dry now because itīs kinda chilly now in the southern hemisphere....Iīve seen people twisting hair in the roots to give it volume, I mean separing it from the scalp, to give it some lift, but I donīt seem to do it right.... Has somebody good tricks on blow-drying to give out? |

yes I have a few that may work for ya:
Blowdry in diff direction all thru out the hair- mostly going 'against' the direction your hair will fall- that is wonderful for voluminous sexy hair. If you have bangs or even if you dont, blow dry the front sections of your hair forward, when you tilt your head back they will have gorgues volume. Makesure that you lightly mist your hair with hairspray when done so that your shape remains thruout the day. Also, do not apply too much balm or other oily thick products for that will weigh your hair down.

Sounds great! Never tried those ones...call me unexperienced... This trick of blowdrying the front sections forwards makes perfect sense, and the other one of going against the natural fall too.... Canīt wait to try them on Thanxs Plasticīs ![]() |

I thought I migth resucitate this old thread to ask a question. I donīt like the way hair looks when you use too much brushes during the blow-drying, or better yet the way it looks after a nigth of sleep.
How can I achieve that ropey-piecey look without having to go to sleep? Thanks a lot |

Great thread!
I'm definitely going to try what Plastic'sWife suggested. My hair is so thin and flat... Hope it works (at least it seems really logical, so actually it should).

So many celebrities have their hair nice, bouncy, somehow messy and tousled but it doesnīt look "blow dried" (Kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and many many more)
If I let my hair air dry it looks flat in the roots and frizzy at the ends. I definitively need the root lifted!!! If I blow dry allover my hair the procedure kills my curls and I end up with something like a bad "rachel", because I have a somehow layered cut. How can I make my ends look interesting, with a slight curl but without being too done???? My roots look better with Plasticīs wifeīs advice, but the ends are a total mistery to me. If I use a difuser I get too much curls... Please, if somebody has tips for blow dry that doesnīt look too done, share. Last edited by newprincesita : 18-10-2006 at 09:02 AM. |

When I used to blowdry it all the time, I would part my hair in two sections; the top half and the bottom half. Then from there, I would split it in small enough sections for the blow dryer to cover the hair.

Consider if your styling products are weighing down your hair. I highly recommend Joico. Work great, don't defeat the purpose of using them and wash out easily.
Another tip for blow drying; hang your head towards the floor and dry that way.

Also another tip besides the hair-drying... be sure that you're only applying conditioner to your ends while in the shower... many women do it from the top, and that ends up weighing your hair down when you come to blowdry it.
A tip I CAN offer you on blowdrying is when you believe you're getting near done... clip up the top half layer of your hair... I often discover that, with myself, the bottom is usually still a bit damp, and I want to avoid over-drying my top layer (the most important part!). |

Call me crazy or obsessed withthis thread (I am both) but Iīm sure somebody will finally give me the secret Iīve longing for since high school. Iīve improved a lot with the tips I received here, but still I long for THE perfect blow dry I dream of.
I was seeing some clips of Charlotte Gainsbourg for instance this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vN36CwfR0IQ Itīs obvious that her hair has been blown (you can see in the back of the top of the hair a little lift) only obtainable by blowdry, and it has a lot of volume even if she obviously has thin hair (and not a lot of it) Hereīs my obsession: How do you make the ends of your hair look like hers, chunky and ropey (like a day after hair) while, at the same time retaining volume??? P.S: Yes. There was this girl in high school who had hair just like Charlotteīs every single day. And it was not her "natural hair" but obviously styled like that. Why didnīt I ask her the secret?
