^ i love it too! it's very similar to what i do to my hair... haha.

i have medium ash brown hair and use a bright red on my roots (ion color - intense red) and an apricot (wella - apricot) on the length... the ion is a bit too blue toned at first, but after a couple of washes it's the perfect color. after the color is on the roots for a bit, i pull it through and mix with the apricot for 10 minutes or so.

Coco Rocha went red, and i think it looks amazing. there's a feature on her red hair in the January issue of US Vogue.

ragtag, it sounds like quite a process! my hairs naturally got a bit of red so i think i'd be afraid to add a bright red... seems like a project for the salon for me

and i didn't know about coco rocha going red! that's exciting. maybe even exciting enough for me to buy an american vogue... i'm usually strictly a uk or paris girl

^ haha, yeah it's not as extensive as it sounds though, and it saves a ton of money. i had a hairstylist friend pick out the color for me, so it's really down to a science. when i used to use box color i had so much anxiety because inevitably no matter how careful i was, the ends would be too saturated, muddy and dark.

i had no idea about Coco either until i came upon the article. i guess she was hiding her hair under wigs and scarves until the news 'broke' in Vogue. kind of absurd and funny.... :p

WOW! Bold and beautiful.. I love how the ends fade too..

I got my hair done yesterday and asked for a rich auburn instead of the cooler brown I get as low tones to my highlights. It looks pretty extreme in person (at least for me), but I'll probably be wishing it stays this rich instead of fading, which I'm sure the red will easily.

sidenote: I love how red makes the color of your lips stand out!

(had a messy bun, hence the crunchy look haha)

I forgot to post how the other henna went. I think my hair is too dark for it to make enough of a difference to turn out how I was expecting but it did get my hair a little lighter and made it kind of reddish. I should warn though that it can smell a bit but it's not a strong smell and I think that actually only I smelled it on myself. One thing that I liked better about this one is that I didn't notice any color washing out when I washed my hair again like with the cream I had used before.

P.S.-I love the color in post # 106.

I hear that red fades quickly...how can you take care of red hair? less shampooing? buying hair care products especially for red hair or just colored hair? any suggestions?

I went that beautiful ruby red Elegance.Is.Refusal for an entire year i kept retouching it looks totally awesome but takes a lot of tender love and care... including colour locking shampoos and when u want it taken out it'll take at least another year or so to get the red shine out completely even with browns...

haute - the color looks great! It def. doesn't look too vibrant!

I have a natural auburn color which I love, I wish the red in it was a bit brighter but for the time being, I'm going to enjoy my natural color.

As for keeping reds "red", other than using shampoo specifically for color treated hair (you can in fact get ones formulated for your dyed color to re-inforce it with each shampoo), it's important to keep the sun off your hair as it was leech out the color (with blondes it can make it brassy, with redheads it can dullen the color). Other than that, it's just maintenance I'm afraid. And it would prob. help to wash it every other day or two days if you can get yourself down to that

elegantly_wasted yeah red is alot of maintenance but its going to be less hassel than the white blonde i was previously!

well i tried that feria colour the first time using that brand and it didnt take well to my bleached hair at all it was awful and the colour was nothing like on the packet it was more of a raspberry and since it didnt really take to my hair it was sort of pinky

so i resorted back to live colour xxl that i've used before and love their vibrant colours and heres what i ended up with

picture is my own

its very bright because my hair was bleached but i love it im growing my hair so i can have lovely long red locks although it will take years since my hair is cropped short. plus the camera flash makes it look alot brighter than it really is in person it has brown undertones to it so its not that harsh but still bright.

i try to use a gentle, creamy shampoo (oddly, john frieda brilliant brunette moisturizing shampoo is my drugstore favorite) and a very nourishing conditioner (bumble and bumble super rich is amazing). then maybe every other shampoo, i'll use a color conditioner. aveda madder root and davines red or copper conditioners keep color in quite well because they're very pigmented.

i also try not to shampoo every day - i've been using batiste dry shampoo, and it's great... volumizes, absorbs oil and makes your hair easy to style. it seems strange but often my hair just needs a little pick me up, and this keeps me from drying it out too much with unnecessary shampooing.

Reading everyone's posts about the color care shampoos they must use (and any additional upkeep) makes me feel guilty; I've had almost no trouble keeping my red because it was bleached red, rather than dyed... (My hair is naturally very dark...) I went to a professional because my hair turned fluorescent orange (and blonde, in parts) when I did it myself, which was a look in itself, but not one I wanted to repeat. The hairstylist did, of course, bleach my hair and then add a dye over that, to even out the coloration, but I'm sure that 'coating' has faded now and I don't even notice the difference.

Im so upset...I just colored my hair rich auburn...its a really nice natural red color and my hair is still dark. In the light its very red but without the light you cant tell that its red! argh. It looks nothing like what its suppose to look like. I have black dyed hair btw but I used color oops to get rid of it a couple of days ago. My hair turned like a brown red color so I was hoping that this red that I picked out would turn out more red when Im in the shade.

Hmm I just might have to pick a lighter shade next time
