I love REDKEN.
My hair is long, permed, colored...etc. and damaged and their products are just so amazing for me.
but seems like your hair type isn't the same as mine and you are looking for something different as well, not sure about REDKEN's other products.

Normally I use Charles Worthington (the name has a kind of antique value...)...

CW makes all sorts of shampoo - I used it when I had shaved hair and I still use it now (my hair drops well below my shoulder-blades, but y'know what they say about men with long hair)...

I use BioSilk shampoo and conditioner. Trust me on this... I used to get my hair colored and curled and straightened and braided and styled this way and that way. Let me tell you how shitty and ratty my hair was. Biosilk really helped to fix the problem. It's kind of expensive though... and can only be found in salons.

But I also find that citrishine works wonders too. It works just as good as Biosilk and smells a thousand times better. It's not very expensive at all. In fact, I once found in a supermarket for 2 dollars.

I find the best shampoo/conditioner for my hair is by Tony & Guy. It's called 'Mega Shine' and it just makes my hair feel better than any other product I've used. I have quite thin hair, but lots of it - so I need to wash it on a regular basis, and this product is kind in that respect.

Also, if you're growing your hair out, try Terax creme - it helps stop split ends so you can go longer before you need a trim/cut

i don't know how true this is but i heard that shampoos that contain ammonium laureth sulfate (the stuff that makes shampoo all bubbly) is actually drying to your hair, so i try to stay away from shampoos that have that in them. then again like i said i don't know how true that is cuz i see a lot of higher end shapoos that contain it.

stuff that i've used and liked . . .

- Burt's Bees shampoo bar (all natural ingredients and leaves ur hair feeling really, REALLY squeaky clean)
- Bumble & Bumble sunday shampoo
- Kiehl's amino acid shampoo, Kiehl's castille shampoo
- Kiehl's Silk with Creme Groom
- any conditioner from the above brands

i really, really endorse Kiehl's products. they cost me a pretty penny but nothing compares to them. i really like the Silk with creme groom. its like a leave-in conditioner and it leaves ur hair really shiny and soft and it doesn't even feel like theres anything in your hair.

i've grown my hair out too (think tom cruise in mission impossible 2). so kudos to you, cuz i dunno about you, but it took me forever to grow it out enough to cut it in the style i wanted it.

Recently I started using a brand called ARTec. As its website shows, the company was bought by L'Oreal.

I'm not sure about its availability outside the U.S. but it's doing a good job for me so I thought I'd add it to our list of already plenty.

anyone else like Dumb Blonde Reconstructor? I'm addicted.

Also, you might just want to use any old shampoo/conditioner with a rebuilding protein in it. My brother is a surfer and his hair gets really crunchy from all the salt, so he uses (o god he'd hate me forever if his friends ever found this out) Aussie hair products. The three minute miracle is really great.

What about Kerastase? I use this line for sun damaged hair in summer and for gently wash scalp and I find it's great. I use also Terax latte and Terax Bambini, two good shampoos. To add shine to my curly hair, I use Bumble&Bumble. Hi!!
