Awesome pics and great trend-spotting! I personally think this only works in real life if it's a little mussed up with loose ends, like the Givenchy pics and others. Otherwise it reminds me of my days as a bunhead ballet student who wore that tight neat bun in public in poor taste. (which I honestly kinda like but I just know you shouldn't do that). Not that I could now anyway, my hair is too short.

I've always been a huge fan of the style. When it's really sleek it looks really powerful but feminine, it adds an instant touch of sophistication. When it's more undone and textured, it gives off a sort of sexy nonchalance, very "I was recently in the throes of passion, but had to leave"

beautiful, but far too severe for my own taste.

^me too, I've been trying chignons for the past weeks and now I can say I'm officially bad at it , everything I can come up with is something that's either too loose or too tight (similar to the Giambattista Vali, Celine or Louis Vuitton examples).. I really wish I could succeed with the Givenchy bun.. they're so perfect .. the Valentino examples are lovely as well.. I think part of my problem is that I can hold it happily in my hand but the moment I try to secure it with a pin, it ends up looking so different than what it did in my hand, the shape is too awkward .. not to mention that I usually need like four pins.. when I want to make it as minimal as possible...

I always do that.

Can someone tell me who the girl in post #18 is. Second row, on the right.

I always do the messy Giambattista Valli bun, only placed higher. Love it. No pins needed.
