REcently I did it myself to my own hair for a mere couple of bucks.
My hair is dark blondish, shoulder lenght (Growing with prayers and all).

So I took some powder, mixed it with the creamy stuff (30 vol) and painted the ends of my hair messily. After 5 minutes i just jumped into the shower.

It looks messy and great. So natural. If I wanted to go darker I would do it again. But summer is coming, the beach will intensify the effect.

I feels a tad dry the first days, but nothing some maskintense and less blow dry wonīt fix.

Hey! Great! I'm really nervous about doing it myself, but reading that makes me think that it can't be too hard. The idea is that it isn't evenly distributed throughout the hair, so the messier the better. Within reason! Thanks newprincesita.

^^ Be super careful with the time you keep the stuff in your hair. I started with some minutes always checking the speed. Itīs better to intensify later than to be sorry.

The goo is VERY bleaching so do it in the bathroom, and avoid coloured towels, and clothes. A mere drop is garanteed to ruin a jean or a shirt. Cos itīs like bleach. Old clothed....or just naked by yourself in the bathroom. Donīt be distracted by the phone or else, a couple of minutes of excessive exposure, and you go white. well it depends, but you know what I mean....

I started with my dirty hair and started massaging the stuff in the ends of the strands....going a little up or down (I mean closer or away from the roots)
If the effect is too subtle, you can always re-do after a couple of days.

When you wash be careful to remove EVERYTHING in a couple of shampoos and then be generous with the conditioning.

Good Luck! Tell us how it went!

One more advice....allways err on the side of caution. Always. Donīt assume anything, just experiment until you "get" how your hair behaves.

Until you train you eye to see colour, bear in mind that WET hair always look darker than dry. I mean you start the process with dry hair, but then you coat it with the mix and then you have to wash it. So the "final" colour youīll see only after drying. In the process you peek and kind of "guess" how is that it goes.

So to be sure of the definite results you have to fully dry your hair, and check it in daylight for a couple of days.
Only then you can be sure that you need more, I mean you wanna go even lighter. Itīs amazing how hair looks different in the sun than in than bathroom!

This two tone in not difficult at all, but itīs better to be safe and patient. Youīll love it...

Kristen Stewart had two-toned hair in 2008. I'm not a big fan of it though...

I think it's because it's not on the ends. I'm more a fan of it at the bottom where it looks like the hair has grown out over time.

I've been a fan of this sort of style for a long time, and after spending a couple of hours looking through pics on tfs last night (and going through my current muse ruby aldridge's thread!) I decided to go for it.
I've never dyed my hair before, so it was it's natural colour. I was slightly concerned about doing it wrong, as I don't have any experience with colouring, but my hair is very long so I figured the worst possible scenario is that I hate it and have to cut a little off the bottom. No biggie.
I just picked up a cheap highlighting kit that contained bleach and put it on the bottom layer of my hair. Not onto the whole length, just the end six inches; and added some to the ends of the top layer.
It's come out really nicely and I'm really pleased with the end result
Any of you who are worried about doing it at home, don't be. It's easy and quick, plus you know how you want it to look, where as a professional hairstylist who doesn't really 'get' the look, maybe wouldn't do it how you'd like. Will post a picture for you guys later!

Yeah I went to Stephen Marr, so it is pretty expensive as they are the top hairdressers here.

Im going for my second lot of Balayage tonight, really excited!

I am an ashy blonde naturally and have been dying my hair really dark for a while, so its a long process trying to get it ash blonde on the top and lighter on the ends again.

Hey girls!
Am LOVING this look! Really want to try it out but not sure how to go about it! (i've you tubed for HOURS!)

I have really (boring!) dark brown hair- figured i'd do a test with bleach and see what happened after a while-it came out orange! -so not the look i was going for! Thank God i didn't do it directly to my hair right?! Has kinda put me off a little!
After you tubeing i've confused myself with the amount of ombre colour options!

Do i...

1. Try the bleach thing again and hope it works this time!
or
2. Bleach the ends then apply a ash brown colour up to the bleach line
or
3. Just stick a light ash brown colour on the ends of my hair and hope it will miraculously lighten as some people have on You tube..?

Please help! I'm so bored of my hair! Kinda wanting the rachel bilson/SJP kind of look- am i being totally unrealistic..? xx

my backwards two tone hair it wasn't intentional but it may as well be.
last time in the salon we did a full weave of blonde highlight root to tip but did double the amount at my roots because i like perfect roots. next time i hope to bleach out the bottom 2X. i got a baby trim last time and i hate having to cut my hair! so we going slow on lightening the ends so i don't have to cut off more.

first one is photo, other two are video screen caps
color tones look different depending on photo vs video

me.

Wow. Just wow!

I just can't imagine the maintenance when it starts growing out though.
