Velcro curlers

Is it okay to use velcro curlers? I saw it in a beauty video on elle.com http://www.elle.com/beauty/ , but doesn't the velcro damage the hair? H&M has some cheap velcro curlers in a really big size which is what I need. But will it ruin my hair?

I used the extra big ones a few years back and they didn't damage my hair at all. Gave me tons of volume, and since they were so large, didn't add much curl (I only wanted volume--no curl).

I thought my hair was actually softer and more glossy when I used them, partly because I let them air dry ... even a partial reprieve from the blow drier is a good thing.

I have the huge H&M curlers.. and they are great, gives you big 'Oomf' hair..
it's excessive blowdrying that's the problem if anything like legaldiva mentions..

Do you have to apply any product before you put the curlers in your hair? I just want them for volume, really.

What I do is I take Gun Britts Salt Water Spray and added it to the segment of hair I'm about to put on the roller.. it gives a very light hold to the hair.. but I'm sure any good setting spray will do..

If you have the time, do let your hair dry as much as possibly naturally.. but be prepared that it can take a while..and you have to wait till it's fully dried otherwise the hair with 'collaps' and you wont get the 'bounce' your looking for.

^Thanks so much Hanne! I'm going to H&M today, I really need these curlers. I got my hair straightened out permanently. It's very smooth, but also a bit flat..

what products do i use before putting the curlers in my hair? just simple hairspray? :S

e-v-elina I wouldn't put anything as stiff as hairspray on it.. damp hair and hairspray don't mix (I'm sure there probably is such a product that allows that.. but generally speaking.. it's a no go) ..damp hair and hairspray would just turn things sticky.. not what you want when you want to eventually get your hair out of the curlers..

Stick with a very light setting spray, mousse, salt water or something like that.
