Whats better to scrunch hair or to make beachy waves: mousse or gel?

I have naturally straightish wavy hair, and Im currently using Herbal Essences Scrunching Gel. It works very well but my hair tends to frizz up after 2 hours and then it gets very knotty. Do I need a better hairspray or should I mousse to scrunch so I won't have this problem?

I have wavy hair, and would use salt spray to get the beachy effect - various high street brands have a sea salt spray as part of their range, although I have read that you can make your own at home.

i do not know if it applies to you, but try using silk , ffor me it works really well, first i apply silk and then a little bit of hairspray and they r so shiny and soft
