0000 Madame Grès Retrospective
The exhibit will open on June 19th and is the first time that this private collection will be presented to the public. The exhibit will feature pleated and draped Haute Couture dresses.

woah!!!...what year might that be?...remarkable resemblence to the late seventies style and early eigties...which is currently enjoying a revival...

in other words...that dress would sell extremely well right now...

its from Hollywood wardrobe archives, not sure of it's date
but i absolutely agree, its totally modern
(the value of true design, never goes out of style )

GRES, date of creation: 1934

In 1934, Madame Grès opened her first small shop, ALIX, on Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris.

Her creations were exhibited at the 1939 International Exposition held in Paris and were awarded first prize.

In 1942, Madame Grès was made a member of the Légion d'honneur by the President of France.

In 1959, she debuted her perfume "Cabochard". Theperfume was a great success on the market.

In 1973, she was elected chairman of the Syndicat de la Haute-Couture Parisienne.

In 1976, Mme. Grès was the recipient of the first Dé d'Or (Golden Thimble Award) and launched an accessories line.

In 1978, she showed her collection in Japan for the first time and entered the Japanese market.

In 1980, she held her first ready-to-wear show.

In 1990, aiming to develop the prestigious Grès image, the Maison Grès was moved to the Rue Saint Honoré.

Madame Grès died in November 1993.
