^Thank you! Such a gorgeous collection.

He's such a hit or miss designer. When he hits it - he really hits it. This collection is so sumptuous, realistic and luxurious! But then - when he misses (which he tends to do more often than not), he really misses. His incessant gimmicks have worn way beyond thin.

I love Chanel by Karl (I love Karl. Period! He is the best ever...the greatest after the great masters and IMO he is greater than YSL).
It's a pity that his Chanel archives are so hard to find. It's almost frustrating.
I think that CHANEL should create an archive website similar to what Prada did.
Something that will feature the original Mademoiselle years, the Philippe Guibourgé years (1975-1982), who introduced the RTW in 1978 and finally the Karl years who started the couture in 1982 and the RTW in 1984 (his first collection was for FW1984. Prior to that, Hervé Leger designed the RTW under his direction).

Most of the videos on Youtube have disappeared, even the most recent collections are hard to find. We needs more CHANEL!!!

I wouldn't assume the House of Chanel's archives would be so hard to access... maybe it has to do with the Kaiser's preference for not dwelling in past glories?

Also, that's a nice little timeline of Chanel's previous designers too. I never knew the Hervé Leger designed for the house at one time...

I know it might be a bit late on this but I found the book published by Thames & Hudson a very good reference to Karl's creativity in Chanel since 1983.

Quote:
Chanel Catwalk
The Complete Karl Lagerfeld Collections
Introduction by Patrick Mauriès
With texts by Adélia Sabatini

The definitive overview of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel creations since his first show in 1983 – the first book in a new ‘Catwalk’ series. A treasure trove of inspiration, this richly illustrated publication will be the must-have reference for all fashion professionals and Chanel obsessives

Ever since his first show for the house in 1983, Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collections have consistently made headlines and dictated trends the world over. For the first time, the key looks of every Chanel collection ever created by Lagerfeld are gathered in a single volume, offering a unique opportunity to chart the development of one of the world’s most influential fashion brands and rediscover rarely seen collections.

This definitive publication opens with a concise history of the house of Chanel, followed by a brief biographical profile of Karl Lagerfeld. It goes on to explore the collections themselves, which are organized chronologically and introduced by a short text unveiling each collection’s influences and highlights.

Each collection is illustrated with carefully curated catwalk images, showcasing hundreds of spectacular clothes, details, accessories, beauty looks and set designs – and of course the top fashion models who wore them on the runway, from Claudia Schiffer and Linda Evangelista to Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. A rich reference section, including an extensive index, concludes the book.

I have flipped through the book in the bookstore and to be honest I think I will get it one day. Every collection since 1983 (I guess the first couture collection for Spring Summer 1983 is missing) is included in the book. Each collection has 2-4 pages with a short introduction. It's a great reference to check the collections especially for the cruise and pre-fall ones which are not very easy to search online. Although not complete for each collection (only around 8-12 pictures per collection) it is still great as a collective book. BTW, the latest one is Fall/Winter 15 couture collection if I remember right.

Also according to BoF Thames & Hudson is planning to publish this catwalk thing as a series and they are working on the next brand which is Dior! I really hope this could be realized in the near future. And I hope we can get other brands (hello Prada... )

^ As far as I know, the first collection Karl made for Chanel is F/W 1983 Couture so I guess It's accurate ? I might be wrong... I saw the book too and It's ok. I thought They could put all the looks from each show but that would have been too much

His first Chanel collection was S/S Couture 1983 and his first RTW was F/W 1984.
Karl had an exclusive contract with Chloe who made impossible for him to do RTW for another french house. The contract expired in 1984 (his last Chloé collection was S/S 1984).
Hervé Leger did the RTW at Chanel for FW 1983 and S/S 1984.

Chanel needs to do an archive website or release video footages of that time.
It's still unbelievable to believe that almost a decade of Chanel is still unknown.
