all scans taken from fashion: a history from the 18th century to the 20th century, from the kyoto costume institute

f/w 1990
wedding dress made from white non-woven fabric

f/w 1995
baby-pink acrylic knit w/ tulle petticoat.

s/s 1992
polyester-rayon-paper with cutwork.

Quote:
dresses made from paper were worn in japan during the kamakura period (1192-1999) and during the edo period (1603-1867) expensive paper dresses were considered extremely stylish.

japanese stencil paper designers created the cut pattern known as goshoguruma and momiji. kawakubo thought that this cut pattern, used during production, looked like lace, but thought it a shame that after its use as a stencil the pattern never came out in the open. the use of paper as a material for a dress, and the idea of using the cutout pattern itself as the main feature of the dress demonstrate kawakubo's orignial point of view where fabrics are concerned.

Wow..thank you all so much! I am very lucky because I always find CdG on sale. When I lived in Boston, I once found a whole rack of CdG dresses for US$50 each at Filene's Basement, and used up all my pocket money. Fortunately, a lot of people are intimidated by her avant-garde design, so do look out for designer sales.

I'm so thrilled by the pictures in #82 because I bought the lacy A/W 95-96 neck piece in black on sale, and have always been mystified about the ways to wear it.

Thank you all for posting!

I need information:-) I remember seeing a picture from a Comme show, where Nadja (or Linda) was wearing a white bridal gown under a pinstriped suit. But I can't remember the year. It was around 94-95. I saw the firstview pics from 95, a few bridal stuffs there, but nothing like I remember:-P

It was in a british newspaper. There used to be a special addition when fashion weeks took place, a lot of review, ranking... Do you know anything about this? Thank you for help:-)

I came accross this picture and thought it might be the one you were looking for ?

From the book Unlimited: Comme des Garçons
Not dated but I think it might be from a/w 91/92...
