Strappy sandals were the preferred footwear of choice for ancient Greeks, but given the chance, we’re sure they’d snap up a pair of Dean and Dan Caten’s newest shoes. The twin designers behind the DSquared label have created a special, limited edition Olympic trainer which will launch globally just in time for the summer games in Athens. The design for the white leather shoe, which features colorful inserts and emblems such as torches, fraternity rings and lettering, was first conceived as a prototype for Greek Vogue who requested specially designed product from various international designers. Dean and Dan were so pleased with the results that they decided to create 400 pairs of the shoes and put them into select distribution, which includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Jeffrey New York, and Selfridges as well as Vierri and DAAD in Milan.
The twins head to Athens on July 9th where they will be feted at a grand party thrown by the Greek distributor Lakis Gavalas. Gavalas is the man who possesses such an enormous collection of Hermes bags that the French luxury goods company was prompted to name a model after him—the “Kelly Lakis” (the subject of a V Magazine article a few months back). The guest list is still being confirmed, but if Gavalas throws parties as lavishly as he shops, we’re sure it’ll be a blowout.
