I really dig 'Missoni' one of the reasons is Margherita, i remember Ashley Judd wearing a great missoni bikini a few years back in a vogue issue it was gorgeous, but it really is Margherita who can take that label and do wonders.

and of course........she's italian.

missoni is one of my favourite brands, but it's also very hard to carry it well...few people look good in missoni...and she's one of the best

envy her...

I like the most of these outfits, but I've never loved the missoni's colour-mixing...

Vintage YSL, Seventies sequins... Margherita Missoni guides Hilary Alexander through her family collection

Margherita Missoni is full of apologies as she drags a massive suitcase across the floor of her bedroom, in her family's Milan apartment. "I'm so sorry," she says. "I've left most of my favourite clothes in New York, so yesterday I had to go through the wardrobe at our country place."

Dynasty: with grandmother and mother
The wardrobe to which Margherita refers could probably equip an exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum. It occupies a vast space in her parents' home near Lake Varese, north of Milan, and is fitted with two tiers of cupboards. Each tier is bursting with pieces from Missoni collections and vintage finds that have been acquired over three generations.

"It's like a whole pile of dressing-up boxes; everyone in the family has their own section. Look, I found this," she says, pointing to a black, furry gilet.

"It's my grandmother's. It's real monkey hair - from the Sixties, when it was considered OK. Nobody uses it now, though, and I don't think I'd like to wear it.

"And this," she says, holding out a sequined batwing top, which is embroidered with a silver butterfly.

"It's very Matthew Williamson, isn't it? It's my mother's; from India, during the Seventies, I think. It's cute, but the shoulder pads will have to come out."

A pile of clothes is growing on the bedroom floor. She unearths a fuchsia mini-dress, which is dotted with beaded flowers and bears the Mister Fox by Walter Albini label: "I love this, too - it's from a vintage shop in Milan. And these" - a pair of burgundy velvet knickerbockers is held up for inspection - "are vintage YSL. I found them in Los Angeles three years ago."

Margherita was born during Milan Fashion Week, 22 years ago. The eldest grandchild of one of Italy's most renowned design families, she has fashion in her blood. She went to her first show when she was a week old and grew up with the eternal cycle of the fashion seasons. Her grandparents, Tai and Rosita Missoni, founded the brand in the Fifties and as a child she would play in the atelier. Her mother, Angela, took over in 2000.

Trips with her grandmother to vintage shops and flea-markets in London and Paris fostered an early interest in second-hand items. "I used to love going to Clignancourt, Alfie's and Portobello," she says. "It was always easy to find something. I love anything that goes in my hair and would always try the hats on.

"I have always had a sense of dressing up. No one would ever say 'that's wrong'."

Margherita recalls her grandmother taking her to buy wellies: "I couldn't understand why you had to buy them in pairs, both the same. I wanted to wear one fuchsia boot and one green, so my grandmother bought two pairs. That was my first fashion statement."

Angela concurs. "I usually try not to comment or interfere," she says. "However, I remember that she once chose blue velvet, palazzo trousers, a Ballantyne Argyle sweater in really bad greens and an orange turtleneck. I just raised my eyes and muttered 'troisième goût'; not bad taste, or good taste, but a third taste, which was none at all."

As the eldest of the grandchildren - her brother, Francesco, 20, is studying industrial design and her younger sister, Teresa, 16, is still at school - Margherita has spent the past two years alternating her studies with her unofficial role as Missoni's ambassador. She attends charity events and film premieres, as well as the Missoni shows at Milan Fashion Week; the autumn/winter 2005 collection was shown last month.

Naturally, Margherita is always dressed in Missoni, but she accessorises in her own way, usually with junky, funky jewellery.

A knitted top from Missoni's collection for this spring/summer teamed with a retro bull-fighting skirt, which Margherita found in a New York flea market
"People call my style bohemian, but I don't work on dressing in a certain way, because I don't take it that seriously," she says.

Although she loves fashion, she has no plans to make it her career just yet. For now, she is juggling her philosophy course at Milan University with acting classes at the Lee Strasbourg school in New York.

"I love studying and I want to get my BA," she says. "But, I don't plan to teach philosophy. What I really want to do is act: I'm going to be a great actress and win an Academy Award.

"Then, when my mother wants to retire, I'll surprise everyone by returning. Right now, though, I have my own plans and my mother is still young. She doesn't want to quit yet, but when there is a need for me, I'll be ready."

There was another article about her style and wardrobe as well in March's Elle UK. She named some of her favourite palces to go in Milan. I think her vintage/ designer style is cool..but cant stand that really furry thing she wears

"...jus flip up ur collar, pull up ur sleeves and wear it loose... done less FOB like"

She's so cute! I really like her style actually. She's one of the few "famous daughters" that I actually like.

Does anyone have any candids of Margherita? I would love to see her style when she's not going out to events and all dressed up.
