Mulletproof just stated over there that the system is now closing threads automatically at 1,000 posts with no Mod intervention.

Why are the new threads, with only 1 or 2 pages, also getting closed?

^ That's probably accidental. Please let us know where they are located.

When you copy posts from a closed thread and take them to a new thread, all their 'properties' (so to speak) also duplicate so the new thread is automatically closed.. I'm managing some threads at the moment and just noticed this (I had left a new thread closed by accident!).

We have just been advised by Tech Support and management that our recurring problems of slow loading, threads not updating, not being able to reply to a post, etc. are directly related to extra long threads.

Therefore, they have installed an automatic shut off whenever a thread reaches 1,000 posts. There is nothing the moderator team can do to re-open it.

We will be discussing this with the mod team about how we are going to handle this. Hopefully, we can keep up and start new threads for you to post in ... but this might not be possible because there are so many. We'll report back here after we all log in and discuss it and can advise you what to do ... probably in a few days.

However, if the thread has not reached 1,000 posts, then is should not be closed ... so please report it here and provide a link to the last post. We'll look into it.

I like when they do that. That way if you've been recently posting you'll automatically be subscribed to the new thread.

^My point was that the reason they are starting new threads is because there are too many posts in the old one - so starting a new thread with 3 pages of posts didn't make sense to me.

But I am glad it is convenient for you. But really that would only help a few members out that way.

Jacquelyn Jablonski's new thread is closed, also Lily Donaldson, Vlada Roslyakova and Barbara Palvin's threads are closed with no links to new threads.

Hang on ... tech support is working on an automatic thread starter, when the old thread is closed. So, hopefully you will be able to move on to the new threads.

Feel free to post a link to a closed account, if you have done a search for the new thread and it's not there. We will come back here later and try to start new threads for any that were missed. It will take a few days ... please have patience.

quick question; if the threads are going to be automatically closed after 1,000posts then can regular members start new ones or do we wait till the mods catch up so there aren't like 50 new threads on the same person?

this thread is closed and only has a few posts http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f58...-a-116729.html

fyi-Ruby Aldridge doesn't have a new thread

EDIT: never mind just read your post BetteT.

why are new threads being called part 1?
shouldn't they be part 2 (or 3, or 4)?

The original is 0. It's a coding convention that isn't worth the aggravation of doing a workaround.

They probably looked at the view count instead of the reply number. The mods get bleary-eyed.

In any event the modification that does this automatically is finished so they don't have to hunt for long threads. When one posts to a thread with 1000 or more posts it will automatically create a new thread which includes the first and last post. It will also insert a link to the old thread into it, and insert a link to the new thread into the old thread. If the thread was pinned, the old one is unpinned, and the new one is pinned. The reason BetteT is in these threads is because I used her id as the automated thread starter. That will probably change.

Examples:
http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f10...45967-134.html
http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f10...-a-117069.html

Might I suggest "System" or something similar? That would define it as an automated function instead of a Moderator action.

They are open now. Please let us know if more new threads have been accidentally closed

It's the code that covers most situations but the threads will be edited one by one to adjust when it's not relevant
