It is fun .... and it is hard to understand. It works in almost a mysterious way. The more karma you get from other members, the more you accumulate and then each time you give some out, you begin to give more each time. It builds and sometimes by leaps and bounds ... depending on who is giving it to you. You get more karma from people who have a large amount of karma. It's not something you control ... it's really in the hands of others.
When I first got here, Softgrey, who has more karma than God (almost) gave me some karma from time to time ... because she's just that way, likes to spread karma around when she likes what you post .... and all of a sudden, my numbers jumped way, way up.
And then if you give too much out to one person, it stops you until you "spread some karma around" ... to different members. I guess that is so that you don't just give it out to the same people all the time.
oh i didnt mean i was hoping to do something with my karma, just curiosity about how much karma other users have since you cant really count how much karma youre getting from one user or another, as i think it is, am i right? but i realize it is in fact rude to ask that...it is nice tho, to have nice comments about your posts, even if the points dont get you anywhere it gives you the feeling that youre liked in the forum, even if you dont even know who the person giving you karma is
I started to get the impression that we could actually see who gave us karma if we got any, but I never knew how to check until now that I finally figured it out. So thanks to everyone who gave me karma.
You can see who is giving it to you along with their comment and a link to your post. There's a list of the last 20 karma posts with all that information ... in your UserCP .... in the middle, there's a pull down with an arrow on the right. Look for it.
Ok, quick question. I noticed today that I can't karma certain users because I can only see Report post under their info, not the usual Give karmaReport post.
What's up with that? These are users with loads of posts, as well as some with too few. Is there a way to block karma?
Actually, I don't know. I did not find anything in my UserCP to block karma, but I suspect that it might work hand in hand with having a private profile. Next time it happens, see if you can see their profile ... that might explain it.
My karma points dont seem to be increasing from the last 7/8 karma messages...!
Is there maybe a certain number of karma points you can get per post or something, as they were all from the same post...
There's not a limit to what you can get from the same post to my knowledge. I frequently have gotten karma from multiple people for the same post. Could it be that the people giving you karma don't have very many points, so maybe your total is just incrementing by 1 point each time?

^Thanks for the help, but my karma points have been exactly the same for a couple of months now, after receiving a lot of karma. I know someone else has the same problem also.
It's not a huge problem though!

Sometimes the drop down is not "dropped down" ... look for a long, horizontal grey bar in the middle, with and arrow on the right side which says "Latest Karma Received" ... click on the arrow and it will open.
