Take a few minutes to read through the thread & I think you'll find the answer.

As far as I know, karma is just a way of telling someone that you like a post that they made or that you agree with them. I don't think it has any real purpose.

But the points, are we collecting the points for a purpose?

The points themselves really mean nothing ... only you can see it. It's just a nice way to hear that someone likes your post.

But .... the more points you get the more you have to give to the next member, which is done automatically by the system. So it's sort of like distributing the wealth ... you pass on the points you get from other members ... while your karma continues to climb.

I like it
I'm sure I like it even more considering all my karma is positive.
How can I give somebody negative karma, not that I plan on, but it is never an option.

^ There is no such thing as negative karma--it is all positive. If someone were to give negative karma, however, I can assure you that that would be frowned on.

If a post is in serious violation of the guidelines, you can use the Report option.

I really think that karma is a big part of what makes tFS such a positive place to be. It encourages all different kinds of positive contributions, which just gets us more of the same

I find it interesting that you would even ask that question... so please let me explain it to you. Karma is neutral... it doesn't know good from bad... just action & reaction... so what you throw out is what you will get back to teach you the lessons you need to learn in your life.

What fashionista-ta says is correct. Karma is supposed to be fun & positive and not used to harass a member... which would be in violation of the guidelines. IMO you should think twice before giving out negative karma... between the laws of the universe and/or the tFS guidelines... you could possibly be headed for trouble.

This sounded more of a warning than an explanation, I was not planning on giving negative karma, I was just curious. Thanks all the same.

No ... sorry, there's no notification. I never see mine either utill I go in for messages or something else and I don't remember to check. Some people just make it a point to check every day.

Karma points are impossible to determine. You get whatever the person giving is assigned to give. The more they have gotten, the more they give each time. So ... if a new member who has not received karma yet gives you karma ... you get the minimal amount (I have no idea what minimum is ... could be just one point, for all I know). If someone like Softgrey who has a bizzilion million karma points gives you karma ... your's will jump up like crazy. Neither they nor you control it ... the system does. And it's not talking .....
