I have had pornography pop up on both websites...

it popped up when my father was walking by and he thought I was looking at porn..., well on purpose that is.

Well I know I'm no longer a mod... but I do know that the mods would never be able to monitor every image that is posted on this forum. It's quite enough that they have to check the nude images to be sure they aren't hosted from imageshack... so I really doubt they are going to ban hosting from imagebam.

Merged with the ongoing thread about this issue.

If you read the thread, you will see that there's very few sites where members can host nude or partially nude images ... and they tend to have porn on them. Therefore it's a necessary evil, unfortunately. But if you look at the post right above yours ... the last post in the thread, before you posted ... you would have seen this ... a site where member may post thier nudes and no porn ... so far.

Thanks to Diciassette

ETA: for imagetitan -- Maximum file size:1536 KB Allowed file types: gif, jpg, jpeg, png
I have also said to protect youself, you can always check the "properties" of any thumbnail and if the image is hosted at either ImageBam or ImageVenue .... don't open it (at least in a public place )

I'm in school for 9 hours, so a break on the internet is allowed

I'm really fed up with the porn too. It's only when I have to click to "continue to image" so it's getting to the point that I don't even click anymore, missing lots of HQ photos.

I wish something could be done about it, or even just an announcement made? I'm no prude but it really aggravates me seeing vulgarity out of nowhere, plus sound.. and I have no other pop-ups but this.

I've been using a new image host for the past few weeks - just to see if it's good and reliable, and I think it's a pretty damn good replacement for ImageBam:

http://imagehaven.net

It has the multi-upload like ImageBam and formats thumbnails correctly for forums, in roughly the same size as ImageBam (180px high). The pages that show the images don't have any popups or porn on it - in fact, the site doesn't even require a login or account or anything. Just choose your images, upload, and you're done. It allows images up to 3MB, which is fine for the vast majority of HQ images, I can post all my HQ scans there without problems.

Just wanted to let you know in case other people were still searching for a non-porn replacement for ImageBam and ImageVenue too, like I was!

Do they allow nude images at imagehaven? That is our main problem ... finding hosting sites where we can post fashion nudes and such ... other than imagebam and imagevenue.

Yes they do - there's a radio box when you start your upload to indicate if it is Adult or Family Friendly content. Sorry I forgot to mention that above!

It seems that on adult images, there are a few questionable ad banners, but no popups as far as I could detect, and no porn-type ads on images that are Family Friendly (just regular safe-for-work ones)!

Thanks nothingless Do you know how long imagehaven has been around? My main concern with these other hosting sites is that they will go the way of imageshadow... leaving us with lots of dead links after they go under. Imagevenue has been around for years.

No - that's my main concern too, and I don't know. From what I could gather after googling a bit, they have definitely been around for more than a year and a half, but that's about all I know. However, there's a contact email address on their contact page - perhaps someone from TFS could email them and ask?

Here are some additional links with stats, showing their traffic for the past year and a half - it looks pretty healthy:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...imagehaven.net
http://www.quantcast.com/imagehaven.net
http://boardreader.com/domain/imagehaven.net

Hope that helps!

I've been a bit apprehensive of uploading any more photos because of the concerns mentioned in this thread. Imageshack, Imagevenue and Imagebam had all shown drawbacks especially towards the tail end of the frenetic Fashion Weeks. That said, I've looked into Imagehaven and wanted to mention that even though it does have an Adult Content radio button prior to upload, there is also the caveat in the host's terms of service, notably:

"Any image uploaded to Imagehaven.net that is adults-only or offensive in nature, infringes upon copyrights not held by the uploader, is used in an unsolicited commercial email, is illegal or violates any laws, will immediately be deleted and your IP address will be reported to the proper authorities. We will also remove your user account and/or any other images you have previously uploaded."

Further,

"We reserve the right to ban any individual uploader or website from using our services for any reason."

Also, you'll note that the main traffic right to Imagehaven now is from the site phun.org...given some of the content on there and the reasonable expectation that host traffic will increase in the future, it is presumable that Imagehaven will eventually go the route of adbanners, innocuous to offensive.

I suppose we'll just have to tread cautiously...

I don't know whether there was already a posting on how to avoid seeing spam & porn at Imagevenue - so pardon me if this is a "repost".

- I upload all my pictures to ImageVenue because this was/is the most reliable place to do so.

- I'm on Windows XP and use Firefox as browser.
I've blocked pop-up windows in Firefox.

- I use the free version of Avast! as antivirus program.
Here I use the "Block URL" function to block all ads as soon as they show up by entering the first part of the URL.

Since a few months I haven't seen one single porn pic or advert on Imagevenue, from time to time I have to wait a few seconds to proceed to the picture but also here there's no ad. visible.

Surely other programs can also perform these two simple tasks:
1. block pop-ups
2. block URLs

In case you want to see pop-ups on certain sites you can exclude sites from being blocked.

HTH

Image hosting & porn
I am disgusted by the amount of porn that I have to click through before being able to see an image that someone posted on this forum.

The problem is that some Image hosts don't care for propriety. They sell their space to adult dating websites, adult webcam services and other pornography-related businesses. With some imagehosts it's impossible to get to the content without being subjected to sh#tloads of pornographic materials, that are not fended off by any pop-up blocker.

I want to propose a ban of certain image hosts, the ones that allow for dirty material to be presented to their visitors.

Please post in this thread the dirty hosts. I'll post a poll and I hope that the moderators here are willing (and able) to disable links to dirty hosts.
