The problem is that many image hosts ban even the slightest hint of nudity, in any context. Imageshack has banned all of tFS several times because of pictures of models who are partially nude. Photobucket also prohibits nudity.

When Imageshack has banned us in the past, all content hosted on Imageshack is blocked on tFS, even if it is just a picture of a bracelet or pair of shoes. This is very disruptive to the whole forum, all the members and guests.

Unfortunately, many of those hosts who allow uncensored content also allow the pornographic offerings that you refer to.

It's a difficult situation. We'd love for members who have good hosting options to share them.

That's why I voted "no"; even if seeing porn next to an ed repulses me, I don't want everything people took time to find/scan/etc to get lost because we blocked some site

I voted 'no' as well ... the browser Safari doesn't allow the windows to pop out of the porn sites, so try it & maybe it will work for you.

^I've blocked 'pop ups' in my Safari preferences and it still doesn't stop them.

What's worse is I often get the 'Amateur Sex Cams' ad. It's basically live feeds (video) right there in the pop up. It's horrifying and disturbing Surely there is an image hosting site that is not associated with this stuff and will accept TFS use.

I find them irritating - especially when you're on a computer in a public area or where there might be children - and occasionally hilarious, one of the ads today seemed to think I lived in Lerwick, on the Shetland Islands, while another once asked if I was looking for action in Inverness.

That will make no sense to anyone outside of the UK.

Correct ... we cannot ban those hosts or we would loose all images that have any nudity of any type. This would include the work of Terry Richardson and Helmut Newton, just to name a couple and a lot of fashion editorials that are in European fashion magazines. It would wreak havoc on our archive of images.

This has been an ongoing discussion for some time now and we have asked members to identify sites that do allow nudity but do not post porn ads. So far ... no one has come up with any that are large enough for our huge bandwidth draw, if we were to tell members to host the on only those sites.

I am merging this thread with the ongoing conversation and closing the poll ... because it' is not something that we can do anything about right now ... no matter what the result of the poll is. I know probably almost every member here would prefer not to be subjected to those porn ads ... but we have no other option, at this time.

If we are able to identify several large sites where we can post our nudes ... then we can consider asking members not to host their images at Imagebam, ImageVenue, etc. and offer them reliable aleternatives.

The best way to handle this right now, is not to click on any image that is hosted on any of the offending hosting sites. You may check on any image by right clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "properties" to see the hosting site.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know that imagehosts that distinguish artistic nudity were so hard to come by.

Might Flickr be an option? I don't believe that they are very eager to turn images with some nudity black. And if they do, the pics won't be deleted but equipped with a 'take me to the kittens' button. There's also a 'nudity option' that you can check yourself.

You can host 200 pictures for free. If you have more, just start a group of your own and move your uploads into the group. I believe that another advantage of Flickr is that it allows for different sizing options, which can be helpful in forum use.

But Flickr has rules in their Terms and Conditions stating you're only allowed to upload images you took yourself:

Quote:
Flickr accounts are intended for personal use, for our members to share photos and video that they themselves have created.
Quote:
Don’t upload anything that isn't yours.
This includes other people's photos, video and/or stuff you've collected from around the Internet. Accounts that consist primarily of such collections may be terminated at any time.
http://www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne

So I don't think Flickr is a viable solution, seeing as 99% of us upload photos we did NOT take ourselves. :/

Ok, this topic has been an education so far.
Picasawebs might be something; i read the terms of service and the program policies quickly and I didn't come across any statement that your uploads have to be created yourself.

This keeps coming back to tFS hosting the images either via the Attachments or via a separate image hosting package. There's plenty of FREE software out there that is easy to install and use if you have the disk space and BW. I have Gallery2 installed on other sites and it works quite well once you get used to it.

Imagevenue Not Working Properly
Whenever I click on an image (which Imagevenue hosts) the "dirty" ads remain, even though I click "Continue to your image" numerous times. Anyone have the same problem, or is it just me? How do I/we fix this?

This is not something that we can control ... once you click you are on their site. Probably just a temorary thing.

This doesn't really has to do with the hosting sites advertising porn ....

Is anyone having troubles with photobucket ? It says that I've only used 42 % of my storage and some recent photos that I've posted say Bandwidth Exceeded I hope this isn't permanent and it's like just way of making me upgrade to Pro, funny thing is that it only happened to some recent photos I've posted, some others that I've uploaded at the same time, don't say that. Photobucket is seriously disappointing me, they want to make people to pay for their accounts !

I've never had this problem. I use Firefox and I've installed a program called NoScript, which pretty much blocks javascript by default. I've also got Ghostery, which blocks and tells you what info a webpage is collecting about you. (TFS has like 5 trackers, but they're benign ones of course!) And erm... another add on called Web of Trust which rates the safety of the site before you enter it. If it has a poor reputation it warns you and doesn't load the page unless you go in. Mwahaha. I'm all paranoid about security and privacy like that!
