PopUp Ads and Other Advertisments: Tech Issues-Please Read Post #1 for Instructions

Moderators Note:

This thread is for reporting technical issues you are having with any tFS ads or popups.

Please do not report complaints about content or frequency of the ads. Be aware that we, the moderators, cannot address the number or frequency of the ads and or popups. The large internet corporation that owns us controls the ads and we have no input, whatsoever. If you want to vent you may go here: Irritating Advertisements/ Popups

However, from time to time an ad or popup creates a technical problem, like not closing and obscuring the forums and the navagation controls or occassionally causing your computer to freeze. This is the place to report your technical issues.

Many times the problem is created by a virus or trojan or something else that you picked up at an obscure website and it is stored on your own hard drive. Often, it is not tFS generated and we can do nothing to help.

So, before reporting any problem with an ad, please do the following:

Install and/or update a good popup blocker.
Update and run a scan of your virus protection software.
Clear your cach and cookies and restart your browser.
Then, if none of those help, post your problem here. If several members have the same issue we will report it to tech support and ask them to take a look.
In order for tech support to diagnose the problem, please do a screen capture of the ad in question and post it along with a detailed explanation of what is happening and where you are located (different cities get different ads).

First ... I'd like to share that we have had a few complaints in the last day about some popups freezing computers. They have been reported to tech support and they are working on it now. They think they know what the problem was so we can expect resolution shortly. However, if you are still having problems after today (Thursday) ... let us know by posting it here.

quantserve.com still hangs frequently as does intellitxt.com

I use an older free version of a program called CookieCop. The newer version is a paid license if it's still available.

The Opera browser has ad, cookie, image and site blocking options included.

Hi Bette, thanks for the reply.

It's a huge, static ad, not a pop-up.

ETA: btw, my pop-up blocker isn't working for the tFS pop-ups.

FireFox's internal pop-up blocker seems to take care of the majority of the popups for me

Nemova ... I'll tell them about it ... to see if it's intentional or not. Occassionally an ad doesn't post right and they will fix it. But no guarantee ... if the advertiser paid to have it that big, it will stay that big.

The good news is that most ads don't stay there forever ... usually only a month based on what I've seen.

I use safari, firefox and IE (macbook, regular pc and work, respectively) and keep getting a similar ad like Nemova's..

it's not always that car though.

Yeah ... That that is a new ad offering to on of tFS's advertisers. So it's something that we will probably have to accept. It's not a mistake.
