^ Postimage.org is fine. The only time I experience the porn ads is when its tagged as Adult Content. Postimage also has a direct link option to post the full image.

heelscatchfire is right, postimage is allowed. Just be sure you don't tag your images as Adult Content and there shouldn't be any problem with porn ads.

Members are responsible for checking their hosting sites, anyway. So, to do that all you have to do is click on the image after you have posted it, if it is a thumnail or a clickable imge at all, then look around for ads and links. If you don't see anything that leads to ads for porn ... you should be fine.

Talking about not tagging images onto adult section, can we unban www.imagebam.com too? Because they work the same way. We tag it right (family safe content) and it's absolutely clear with those porn ads. Image from style.com

NO .... we do not want to do that and allow ImageBam. People forget and make mistakes.

ImageBam is one of those sites that sometimes replaces old images in accounts without any activity with porn images from time to time. It was one of the worse offenders that created way too many complaints. And what we clicked on was much worse than just ads .... it was pretty graphic ... REALLY GRAPHIC. So the decision was made to just not allow it.

I've found some images on a Flickr stream that I'd like to post here. How would I go about doing that? If I save them and host them myself, what do I say the source is? Or would it be okay to simply use the Flickr images?

I usually write flickr.com/[insert flickr username (the nickname of the person who post the picture on flickr) here]

I am just trying to learn about hot linking - so if I go to a site like The Satorialist, and I see a picture I want to post, and I right click on it, copy the image address, and then paste that image address into IMG icon, is that hot linking? Any clarification would help. I am trying to read up on it elsewhere too.

^Yes, you're correct, that's hotlinking. You have to upload the image to an imagehost instead of copy-pasting the URL into the IMG code here.
Most imagehost websites have the option of uploading the image via URL, so you can put the link there and it will be uploaded to the host.
The other way is to save an image on your computer first and then upload it to the imagehost from there.
Please make sure to read which hosting sites are allowed on tFS and which aren't before you post pictures:
Hosting Images on Sites that feature Porn Ads ... Not Allowed!

Hope that helps

Thanks Psylocke, and congrats on your new "Mod Squad" job.

I am just realizing that when I have posted images most have been "hot linked" without my knowing it. For example, when I started threads during F/W, all of the images were linked via style.com in the way I described in #131.

But in looking at the threads, it seems to me that many many images here are hot linked; am I wrong?

Can a person tell the difference between hot linked and not just by looking?

Thanks for all of your help!

Thank you NPJ!

Yes, it happens to many members although it is posted in the announcement section in every forum, usually for the same reason: they just don't know what exactly hotlinking means. And it is indeed difficult to spot and you only notice if you quote or edit a post or right-click on an image (thumbnails are always posted via image hosts). Don't feel too bad about it, apparently no one noticed you did it before, or else we would have told you. It's good you asked and now know how to post images correctly.

BTW, the hotlinking rule is necessary mainly because hotlinking from other websites uses their bandwidth which results in high costs for them when popular forums like tFS do it regularly.
There are also many sites us tFS members get pictures from that change the url of the image after a few days, like getty and nowfashion. This means the pictures won't be visible anymore or gets replaced with a random unrelated image.

Okay I think I am beginning to get it. ckgirlbr has been helping me via PMs too. Apparently style.com is okay so my F/W threads are not that big of a problem. But I will be careful posting images going forward.

I did read the announcements when I first joined, but since I didn't really know/understand what hot-linking is, it didn't really sink in. It was clear to me about content rules, because anyone can understand that. But technical rules are a little more complex.

Maybe new users should have to read and "accept" a link/thread before posting or something? Just a thought as I joined 2 years ago and am really just "learning" (understanding) this now- eek!

Anyhow, thanks again!!
