Posting Pictures Without using tFS Attachments, Linking to Hosting Sites & Hotlinking - Page 5

I'm sure it doesn't bother a lot of members to post photos and see them, but for "archiving" purposes I like to upload photos.

Is there any way we can get users to stop hot linking? Many times I just re-post what someone just posted so that we can have the photos for later. Plus, it's extremely inconsiderate to waste bandwidth of the owner's photo(s).

The Fashion Spot administrators feel that reposts are inconsiderate of our members, who have to wait longer for pages to load so they can see duplicates of the same image. That is one reason why we do not allow reposting of images; reposts waste this site's bandwidth.

We would love members to stop hotlinking, but we do not have the resources to police all image URLs. If you have any ideas of how to get members to voluntarily stop hotlinking, we'd love to hear them!

Check with Buffaloed. I believe there are ways to block Hotlinking from certain sites that are known to delete images after a while.

Not sure is this the right thread to ask this, but are for-profit hosting sites such as shareapic allowed on tFS?

I know a lot of forums don't let members upload load their images & videos on for-profit sits b/c the poster gets some sort of incentive (like money) per click

We prefer that you to post your images here ... rather than links, to make it better for the other members. We often ask the posters to refrain from using only links.

Right now, we don't have a specific rule about where pics are hosted (other than the no nudes hosted on Imageshack). However, we frown on using our free forums to make money. So, things like that are reviewed on a case by case basis when becomes clear that the member is only trying to make some cash. We would most likely see it as abuse of our forums for profit and we would probably put a stop to it.
