I'm trying to post a video, but it's not working. I wrote [yt.]the URL code of the video[/yt.] (without the dots) and it just appears a white box.

i don't think you use the URL ^
i think you just the code at the very end of the basic URL (youtube.com/etc...)

example (the bold part)
....youtube.com/watch?v=iP0pNce83qo

Is there a way to embed videos from sites other than the ones listed in the announcement? e.g. vimeo.com

No ... I don't believe so. Did you follow the link in the announcement to the FAQ's? And did you try any others?

The announcement she's talking about is above many of the forums .... New video embedding options at the Fashion Spot!

According to Tangerine's announcement ... we can probably add a code or two for you, if it doesn't work. ... Let us know which ones.

Per the announcement mentioned in post #23 New video embedding options at the Fashion Spot!, and the information in FAQ's http://forums.thefashionspot.com/misc.php?do=bbcode the only ones we have are the ones listed in both places:

And as stated in the announcement, we possibly could add it for you. Please contact a moderator with the codes needed for that site (it should be in their FAQ"S, I would think) and after we determine that they respect copyrights, we'll refer it to tech support to see if it can be added. If it's added, we'll add it to both lists so you will be able to check.

Although many of you have requested codes for vimeo, they do not honor copyrights and we cannot legally embed their links.

I have a huge problem for some reason I cannot post youtube videos, I am using the
[.yt.]youtubelink[/yt.] - without the dots and all i get is a white square. Can someone point out to me what I am doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

I think it's what you are posting in the value section .... you are probably picking up the wrong part of the youtube address. See Post #18 , above to check what part of the code your are picking up from them.
