I think that's a suggestion that makes perfect sense to me.

I'll take it to the team and see how the SS and SC mods like it. Not sure we could insist on this, because it's not always available from their sources (espeically if they find the pics on a personal blog or something) ... but certainly it would be nice to ask members for it, when they have it.

I just read a post by another member and I agree with the principle. Basically they were feeling uncomfortable seeing picture of a barely dressed underaged model. Should there be a rule where if the age of the model is known then the types of pics posted should be limited such that any feelings exploitation of young models/child pornography is then quashed? Or do we just have to click report for things that fit this category of offensiveness?

Just report it and the team will review and discuss it. We usually do remove images when there is nudity and the model is clearly "underage". But ... by underage, we do not mean legally underage, which in most places would be around 18 or 21.

We all know that most models get ther start when they are anywhere between about 14 and 16. And in Europe, nudity is not seem in the same negative vein as in North America ...it's much more acceptable there and not seen as a problem.

Because this is a fashion forum we really need to allow members to post professional images of models containing some nudity, as long as they are published somewhere reputable. It is the legal responsibility of the parent to decide if their child should have this sort of photo taken and they are usually aware that they will be seen in public.

However, prepubescent models and models known to be extemely young in pics that show nudity is where we draw the line ... and we will usually remove those images when we see them or are alerted to them.

Can we classify the runway collections by seasons/years?
Can we classify the runway collections by seasons/years? Much easier to search...for both pros and newbies.

Don't we already do that? Each thread has the season right on the title.

You can search by year (our search function can only read 4 or more characters, so we insist on thread titles have the full year in it, to make it searchable). We also have Google seach at the bottom of every page, which will allow a more thourough boolean search .... by placing quote marks around the whole title ... such as "Dior S/S 2008" and that might bring it right up.

If you are talking about putting them in separate sub forums, one for each year and season, I'm afraid that won't work. We can only have one subforum for each main forum. And D&C already has a subforum (History of Style) ... and can't take anymore.

The threads in each forum are arranged in chronological order ... the one with the most current post is first. It's the only way they can be arranged.

but putting seasons/years on titles doesn't work precisely...Google sometimes can't match it, the result I want could be in few pages after the front page...

Yes ... the search doesn't always work perfectly ... and that is why tech support added the Google search at the bottom of every Fashion Spot page ... way at the bottom. It gives you a second way to search and it's the best we can do.

BTW ... if you use our Google search, you don't have to put "the fashion spot" in ... it's automatic.

^ I was just gonna say that. If you go to normal Google you can type: "site:thefashionspot.com caroline trentini" or if you use the little Google search at the bottom of every tFS page then you don't have to type in the site because it's already embedded into the search.
Meanwhile the tFS search function just so happens to be absolutely diabolical, so I don't recomment using that.

Things to know about the "diabolical" tFS search, to make it work for you almost all the time:
  • You must use keywords of 4 letters or more. Less than that will not be recognized.
  • When using the Advanced Search, make sure that you search by thread titles only and ask to have results delivered as threads ... otherwise your will get way, way too many results.
  • You may set your "Advanced Search" with these preferences as your default ... I recommend that you do that.
  • You may narrow your search even futher, by specifiying the forum.
  • It will not search phrases or two words tied together with quotes (a boolean search), like most search engines will. Such as "new york" ... it will search for each word independently. So, it would be more precise to search with just "york" and forget about the "new" part ... or you will also get all those threads that have the word "new" in them too.
  • Learn to select your keywords carefully when searching and when starting a thread. We try to make sure all our threads have titles with one or more commonly used keywords (with at least 4 letters), we enter years with 4 numbers to make it searchable and we ask members to start theads with strong keywords in the titles, which clearly identify what the thread is about.
  • You may easily search the forum you are in ... without going to advanced search. When you are in the forum you wish to search, the thread listings page, look for the "Search this Forum" link on the right side of the lower nav bar ... and you may select to search only thread titles, too ... making it fairly easy.
  • You may search a single thread ... by going into the thread, and using "Search this Thread" located in the same spot.
  • If all else fails, try the Google search at the very bottom of each page .. it will automatically search tFS for you, and you may use smaller words and string phrases together with "quotes". It won't narrow it down as much, but it sometimes will deliver hard to get results. Here is where you would need to search for "Miu Miu" because that won't work on the tFS search ... only 3 letters in each word.

How about getting rid of the rating system? What's the point of it anyway?
Take the models' threads as an example: someone who doesn't like a particular model will give that model's thread a rating of one star.

Yeah ... I agree ... it's not productive and only encourages competition between the fans, which we discourage.

I'll ask tech support to see if that can be changed ... and if it can, I"ll take it to the moderator team for discussion and a decision.

The Supporting Cast forums have had it's thread ratings disabled.

We determined that in other forums members usually use the rating system to rate the actual thread .. the content and discussion, which is the intention of the ratings system. But, we agree that in SC, members use it to rate the model, and we don't want members to use it as a competition.
