Lightening / Coloring Eyebrows

Well, I have light brown hair but dark, dark eyebrows and no matter how much I pluck and wax 'em they still look as dark as death so I'm seriously considering dying my eyebrows. Does anyone have any experience in this area? I know you can get kits for it (20 bucks a pop) but I also talked to a woman who said that she just uses one of the regular at-home hair-coloring kits (No-Drip Nice N' Easy) which I like the sound of because you can choose from a variety of colors. You can also get it done at a salon but I heard that it's pretty expensive for a dye-job. Anyone have any input, reccomendations or warnings? Thanks.

Did you dye your hair? :P

I've never done it and never will because I have no need to but I would suggest saving up and getting it done at a reliable salon, the last thing you want is your eyebrows dissolving away into nothing right?

But then again, dyeing eyebrows doesnt come across as being 'hard'... the same as dyeing your hair at home I suppose (which m sure everyone of yous have done :P)
If you do decide to do it yourself, freshly pluck your eyebrows after a bath, and dye them the next day I say.
Anyways, full instructions and caution advice should be available on the packet.

Good luck!!

I've never needed to dye my eyebrows and frankly, the thought of getting dye into my eyes would be enough to stop me in my tracks. Maybe a salon?

Thanks for the advice and warnings Foxy and Tea. Actually, I haven't dyed my hair (yet!) but I'm planning on going blonde (big surprise) so these black brows have gotta go. The salon does sound like a reliable idea, though I'm glad that it doesn't seem too crazy to want to do it at home (foreboding music...)

Of course not That's what homekits are for

But then again you do hear about people burning themselves with selfheated wax and etc etc, waxing off a chunk of their skin, being alergic to it etc etc ... but dont wanna scare ya!!

Actually another thought!!! Don't forget to do a patch test!!!! Or if you go to the salon, make sure they do it!!

Normally your natural brow colour should complement your natural eye colour. So if you dye your brows you should make sure the shade goes well with your eyes, that is very important

a lot of salons will refuse to color your eyebrows. when i dyed my hair blonde my eyebrows were way too dark so i used some 2% hydrogen peroxide (the kind they sell in the drug store in the brown bottles) on a q-tip and over a few days they gradually got lighter. just don't get it in your eyes obviously.

My hair is like that - I'm naturally light brown and my eyebrows are a dark brown. I actually dyed my hair darker with red and blonde highlights so the base color almost matched my eyebrows, but now I want a lighter look for summer and am having a hard time deciding what to do about my eyebrows!

They DO make a bleaching kit specifically for eyebrows. I can't remember the name of it though.

I'm just so afraid of turning my eyebrows orange!!

from the sounds of things it looks as though I have a variety of semi-good options :P hhmmm...so far an eyebrow kit seems the most do-able.... speaking of going blonde, those of you who have dyed your hair blonde- Did you go to a professional hair colorist or just a regular salon? (i.e. the Hair Cuttery)

Buy facial hair lightener, it's for women who have dark facial hair. It's rather mild so it's easy to control how light you go.

I had the same problem a few years ago when I wanted really white eyebrows like I saw on some models at the time. After searching and asking around for a couple of weeks a lady at a pharmacy recommended this and it worked really well.

some facial hair bleach stuff should be perfect. just make sure you keep checking the colour.

Wow :P , the facial hair lightner and the peroxide both sound a lot easier (and cheaper). How long does it take for the peroxide to start showing some progress? How light were you able to get your eyebrows?
The facial hair lightner seems like an awesome idea; I have some of that too but unfortunately, just when I'm getting all excited about trying it out... I realize the bottle is empty

One thing though, wouldnt it be totally disastrous if one eyebrow was lighter than the other, so you tried to lighten the not so lighter one to match, but then ended up with it being lighter than the previous lighter one

Im sorry .. i just have an odd sense of humour
