Can't believe no one has said Vitamin A! It's the best for skin, hair and nails. Accutane (the acne med) is vitamin A in it's strongest form. However, just like anything else, you should only take the recommended dosage.

Also, the B Vitamins are good for skin. Depending on what you want to fix about your skin, I'd just go to a health food store and ask someone there which is the best for you.

careful, too much vitamin A is toxic.
it can cause bone pain, hair loss, headaches, liver damage.
i think in the western world, most of our foods are supplemented with vitamin a so taking vit a tablets could be too much.

fish liver oil is excellent to take, not only for hair and nails, but has been proven to lower triglycerides. thats what we prescribe to patients in my clinic who have high TG's but damaged livers.

I read in a mag at the hairdressers that they recently conducted a survey on evening primrose oil vs a placebo and they found that after 2 months those who had taken the EPO had on average 20% plumper (?) skin than those who had taken the placebo. Anyway, have gone out and bought some so will report back in 2 months . Sorry its a bit vague, but was just flicking through and it caught my eye but have no idea of the breakdown of the group tested - i.e. how many, age, diet of those tested etc. On the other hand I have heard before how good EPO is so I figure no harm in trying

Evening Primrose oil..now some members who's first language may not be English might rack their brains trying to figure out what that is in their language - evening primrose oil and a lot of other herbal names are mentioned here: http://www.liberherbarum.com/Index.htm in danish, german, hungarian and islandic, theres also a partial list of herb names translated from italian, spanish, finish, swedish, norweigian, polish, french etc..to english

I've heard zinc is good. I use evening primrose oil and that seems to work

Try fish oil pills if you don't get your regular intake of Omega 3s. I take three a day.
Ahem, i don't mean to sound cheeky at all... but: don't fish oil pills make you smell fishy? That's just what i heard somewhere, and it sort of put me off trying them. But maybe it's like garlic; the more you eat of it the less you will smell of it?
It would be great to hear your feedback, because i might try them after all..
Thanks

Hmmm, I take Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids as Fish Oil, and I don't think I smell like a fish...

When I take flaxseed oil, I notice results within a week.
Vitamins E, C, A, & Beta Carotene are beneficial for gorgeous skin.
Vitamin A is apparently very beneficial in clearing skin from acne and pimples (Accutane is some derivative of A). Vitamin E is beneficial in clearing up scars or hyperpigmintation left over from acne, and has good anti-aging effects. Vitamin C is an anti-oxident and like E, flushes free radicals from your system.

I heard Zinc is the acne clearing "god mineral". It supports a healthy immune system, I guess....

If you don't like the idea of popping 10 different pills in the morning, taking a nice multi-vitamin is a good alternative.

Prenatal Vitamins

Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow takes prenatal vitamins (even after her pregnancy). She swears it keeps her hair thick and healthy. Has anyone tried this and is it safe to take these when not pregnant?

I am a total vitamin freak. Im hooked. I just dont feel right if I dont take my stash every day. I take a womens multi, extra A, B50. esther C, D, E, iron pills, Omega 369, Coenzyne Q10,and silica for skin and hair. I have nice thick hair now and my skin glows if I do say so myself. I also eat pretty good and get lots of sleep.
