Black Friday
I wanted to start a discussion regarding the upcoming Black Friday sales in the US on November 24. I have found this site for black friday information, but it is mainly the typical electronic and computer stores' information www.blackfriday.info. There should be some good deals on fashion chains (I heard H&M is having 20% off until 10am.

Does anyone know of other deals for black friday?

Go to macys.com and print out a coupon with 15% off all clothing items and you can use that coupon ALL DAY throughout november 24-26. Other than the coupon, there will already be a sale at macy's from November 24-26 and on black friday, stores will be opening at 6AM.

H & M is 25% off actually! I may or may not go. It sounds like it'll be nuts and I wasn't that impressed by the new H & M at the beverly center.

You are right, it is 25% off, and I read in today's paper that it is only from 6am to 10am!!!

"Black Friday" is the Friday after Thanksgiving, which historically was the busiest shopping day of the year in the US and the day in which most stores went from being in the red (not making a profit) to being in the black (making a profit from that point on until the end of the year). Stores have insane sales EARLY in the morning, (usually at 5/6am and now some at midnight), on electronics, clothes, toys, etc. The frenzy over toys and electronics (especially tvs) can mirror what was on the tv over the PS3 sale last week and the H&M Viktor and Rolf launch earlier this month.

I read somewhere now there is a Cyber Monday, for online sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving, but I think most sales will start online at Black Friday as well.

Here is a funny article (funny to me) in the Washington Post about Black Friday, regarding how major retailers are doing special role playing and training for employees for that day. The picture of the guy running with the TV really makes me laugh.

Thanks for the explanation. Too bad we don't have that in France.

BAD NEWS FOR EVERYONE!

I went to the H&M in NYC yesterday and they said 25% off does not count for items designed by Victor&Rolf!

I work at Macy's and people were pounding on the doors before we opened. Apparently there was a brawl over the last suitcase that was on sale a bit later in the morning. Good lord, I hate Black Friday--the 6 to noon deals weren't even that good!

That article was hilarious, too:

But Tillery said he wasn't worried. He considered last year's Black Friday to be pretty tame.
"I don't think we had anyone trampled," he said.
