me personally:
I have a very small wardrobe, but they are all clothes I LOVE and will never get tired of.

I don't buy clothes for the following scenarios:
"Its alright looking. but hey! its 50% off"
"Its poor quality. but hey! its cheap!"

^^
I only buy things that really catch my eyes. So I wind up buying clothes maybe once or twice every 3-4 months.

So like I said before; I have a very small wardrobe, but it is full of quality and GREAT pieces.

I live at home, rent free :p...in addition, I live in the NYC metro area so I have easy access to all the huge department stores and boutiques, whereI buy almost everything on sale. The only thing I pay for full-price are handbags that don't go on sale. Everything else, I wait for it to go on sale. I'm of the mindset where if something is meant for me, I will eventually get it...if I can't get it, then I'm better off without it.

I read that too. It was Alexander McQueen.

I'm like that too. My friends think I'm really picky, but it really is about quality over quantity.

She was a stylist, she was credited with putting a lot of designers on the map. She died of cancer. The first link is her remembrance thread and the second is her thread in "Behind the Lens".

I wouldn't say I have MANY designer items, but those that I do have are due to a combo of currently living at home rent-free, working in a boutique where I get a discount, and I recently won money from a fashion design contest i won. Also I've found deals on e-bay many times which helps.

That doesn't seem like a smart move at all.

I wonder that too. Even I live at home. But have to pay for school, books and food for myself. I think,if you can afford it. All the power too you. I am jealous.

The most expensive thing I have in my closet is from Zara Designer items are too exorbitant for a gal like me to afford, my mom gets all the goodies. I don't really view them as necessities so I don't really care or mind.

I think when you separate what you need from what you want. You don't care that much. I like buying shoes and bags because I wear them out until they are old.

If you buy designer, you can do it 4 times a year and then you can't buy ANYTHING at all the rest of the year. I can't do that. I wear my clothes out very quickly. You know, buy a pair of jeans, wear them until they are rags, then buy a new pair. And it doesn't matter if they are designer or not, they do not last longer for that reason.

there are all cases.
old money or new money...
people working in banking or legal area can make 6 digit income easily. hedge fund managers can pull in at least 7 digits/yr. designer items are nothing for them.

Easily - I look and don't buy very often! And if I do, it is never retail - trunk shows, end of season sales, begging - I have my methods.
