i'm a teacher so you know we don't make much.
matter of fact, that's why i'm looking for a new career

but getting back on topic

i usually just buy a few things here and there that i know fit in to what i already have. I don't buy stuff i know i won't be wearing in a year or two. I also don't buy things just to buy things. Also, mix and match high end stuff with something non designer.

with all these designers doing converse wanabees, no thank you...i'll stick to the originals for $30.

I read that 98% of Japanese girls in their 20's has a LV bag...most of them buy it on a credit card (which they can choose to pay it in 3-5 payments instead of one) or bf buys them. Other than that, my friend cuts her food to buy designer stuff (as in rent $500, food $300 clothing=$1000)

I really don't understand that. There is so much pressure to have the latest bags or shoes. I think some of the LV bags are tacky.

Working Girl - I don't find LV bags tacky, but they are so ubiquitous that in my eyes, they've lost a bit of value. I'm not that privileged, but that's how I feel.

Well, i have to say that i don't pay anything, except for everything fashion.
I work only 3 months (summer) and i make around 4.500 euros. All 4.500 goes to clothes, shoes, bags, make up products.

I buy expensive bags (not a birkin yet but soon....) and then i love zara and H&M. I think that if you don't have a lot of money it's better to buy just a thing or 2 designer. Like a gorgeous balck dress (always in fashion, elegant, blah blah) or a great pair of black pants, or a white shirt. Things like that.

I don't think though that designer stuff make you anything. Style is style and it has nothing to do with money. I've seen extremely rich people with unbelievable closets and they look EXTREMELY cheap.

MOST IMPORTANT: Always wear clean, well put together clothes. It's more important than the tag.

I have an awful jealous streak in me that rears it ugly head every time I look in the personal style and shop till you drop forums. For me a £40 dress from Topshop is a major treat. Unfortunately Im not one of those people that find great bargains and unique vintage pieces so I have to make do with middle range high street brands which are still quite costly for someone living on a budget. Having no money isnt good for someone that loves fashion but lacks the creativity to just throw any old tat on and look fabulous.

Well said!!!
Good and fashionable are not always have to be expensive, but for shoes and bags,if you can afford designer's ,go for them, because usually they have much better quality and will last a lifetime
Same goes to jeans, and jackets/blazers sort of thing, and the little black dress.
I buy my clothes at Zara and H&M,and topshop too,why not??they have great designs, and acceptable quality, I even have some clothes that i buy from unknown small shops too, they're incredibly cheap and trendy, but you have to really examine the quality of the clothings first before you buy,the sewings and all,you dont want them to look too cheap.
Some of my other clothes i got them tailormade.
It's the way you mix them all together, and the way you present yourself that makes you stylish, not the expensive clothings

I have been incredibly lucky because if I didn't come from the family I did, I'd be...well...financially ****ed, haha. My mother and father both come from a very long line of "old money" new england families, so I guess I've just been lucky enough that they come from along line of people who went to college before it was really a common thing aswell. Alot of people in my family also have been lucky in the careers that they have chosen. So, I guess all of that together has made it possible for all of us to be able to have nice things & all that.

work, work and work!
in law school full time and work for the federal government full time. I love my job, I make GREAT $$ and dont really do much..dont hate
I own my own place now and arent really home enough to rack up the utility bills, I dont eat out, always pack my lunch and dont drive alot. I usually make my friends pick me up and take me places or take the train from my home to work/school which is alot cheaper then paying almost $4.00 for a gallon of gas and my car takes PREMIUM. I dont wear top notch designer clothing like some of you guys. I like contemporary labels ie. vince, alice&olivia, anything on shopbop.com LOL etc. love designer jeans, shoes and handbags though.

Plus I have my own little business courtsey of my parents who are self employed.

No credit card debt though, I dont even use CCs. I have 1-2 that are for emergencies and I dont even carry them on me ( although I know the numbers by heart)...if I dont have the immediate cash to pay for something then I dont get it. No reason to put yourself in debt if you really cant afford to buy something just to live that lavish lifestyle.

its sad that people are in major debit over a bag or clothes, I dont get it. But, thats there business. My Best friend is 142k in debit over a 2 brand new cars, jet skiis etc. shes only 25, really sad!!!

i study abroad and am a full-time college student. I put away part of what my parents send me and just SCRIMP and SAVE!
it might sound really sad but I am capable of going on a rice diet to save up for some new shoes or bag my mom would kill me.

Me too! But I live with my mom right now, so she makes sure I don't do this.

My brother started a small business while he was in high school which has grown in the last few years. He's quite generous and takes care of me and my mom
