Paul Smith Suits
What is your opinion of Paul Smith suits? I've heard the fabric used isn't exactly top notch for what you're paying. thx.

the suit I'm lookin into won't exactly make me look like an oompa loompa or any other farcical character from a candyland novel...hehe...what little "candystripes" present, trim the inside - so is never seen...

They're crap, I bought one from Oxfam and it's the worst suit I own. The fabric is cheap and the cut is very overgrown Etonian.

Some people swear by them, some people don't like it. I've had bad experience with PS fabrics, so I don't touch them. A friend of mine loves the brand. I think Baklanyc has had good experience with PS as well, you might want to ask him.

Conan O'Brien wore a windowpane one when Sarah Jessica Parker was on his show. She said it wasn't easy to wear.

Paul Smith makes 2 styles of suits: London Line and Mainline.
The London Line is aimed at the city/business worker and is priced around the 500 mark. These suits are really massed produced and our generally not that special. Saying that I have a couple - one in blue linen - and another in brown cord which I purchased at Sale. They are both nice suits but lacking in the extra details and quality.
Then there is the Mainline suits which retail around 700 to 800 mark but can be as much as 1000. They are generally cut tighter and the quality of the detailing/design and make-up/fabric is much higher. I have one I got off eBay as new and the jacket is superb.
