Splendid are the best imo. James perse are ok, petit bateau are actually for kids so if you buy a long sleeved one you end up with a three-quarter sleeve effect. The splendid ones are really soft but are a bit delicate unless you get the slightly thicker ones.

^ about that quarter sleeve effect.. i'm tiny, but i don't have abnormally short arms or anything and that doesn't happen to me.
splendid and C&C tend to lose their elasticity

another vote for james perse. I'm just a recent convert. I was never too into plain t shirts and tank tops but I bought one on a whim like two weeks ago and...wow. it fits me wonderously, the cut is so perfect it's almost scary, it hugs your curves just right, so comfortable. the man knows his plain boring cotton staples.

C&C - the fit is just perfect and I prefer the thin cotton. Second choice is the Gap favorite tee, but it's a heavier knit, which I don't like as much.

if you're going the cheaper route (under $30), i'd say american apparel or the gap "favorite" tee. my only problem with the gap ones is that they don't come in many colors.

over $30 i'd say splendid hands down...the 1x1 rib modal/cotton blend is super soft, the short sleeves aren't too short, and the body is long so you're back isn't hanging out

Genera
I have 3 genera long tees and they are very soft and fine. what I really like about them is they don't have any seems on the waist line, sleeves and neck line...

if you want cheap-cheap, the old navy tiny fit tees are not bad at all. they're thin, soft and very fitted; plus, they come in a million colors. and you can never go wrong with hanes boys' white tees... they look better with age.

if you want to spend a little more, james perse and the old standby michael stars both make a nice little t-shirt.

James Perse and Michael Stars do make nice t-shirts but you can get the same quality with Old Navy or Hanes, and cheaper.

In my opinion Armani exchange tees are really awesome. I like the ones made of Pima cotton. They are quality, plus the fabric is thin so they are really lightweight and comfortable, and good for hot summer days.
