Vintage-Inspired Retro Swimwear
I have always loved the idea of classic 50's/60's swimsuits, a la Marilyn Monroe and Annette Funicello. Though these older-style swimsuits, for the most part, cover more, there is an extreme appeal about them. I'm not sure if it's the curves that a suit may accentuate or just the classic appeal about them, or some of the beautiful icons that wore them. But I think they are just gorgeous.

In the past it has been difficult to find non-designer, more available swimsuits that seemingly hailed from this era.

However, in recent years these cuts have shown up in more and more places. Now, I'm not saying that they are widely available - oh, no no, they certainly are not. But I was browsing Urban Outfitters yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at a couple of the somewhat old style suits they had available on their site (and for under $100) - and I have added a couple of others.

But of course, if you're looking for some design fashion, there are some beautiful pieces available, as well - and really, my love truly lies in these pieces.

The Norma Kamali Bill is classic. It costs $350, which is more than I want to pay, but good grief this swimsuit is gorgeous!

I'm really amazed at the prizes that vintage bathing suites go for on ebay.. often for more than really great dresses..

Wow, I really love the black VS one- piece

I recently got this polka dot bikini from The Gap. It was on sale when I got it so I don't know if it would still be available.

looks like a lot of these are a great way to get more coverage but still look sexy..
the norma kamali suits are a great example of that

i think the vintage look is also really trendy and can show a bit more personality and versatility than the more basic triangle top string bikini (which i also think tends to be flattering on many women)...

yeah I think that's been somewhat influential, at least in Britain last summer. I agree these swimsuits can have the potential to be way more flattering (or the tops at least) because a lot of them have underwire worked in well when the only time I've seen triangle tops with underwire done well is with Eres

Wow, those Victoria's Secret suits are actually pretty nice and sort of unexpected for them. And that Norma Kamali is definitely on my "coveted" list.

I really want to get that black VS one piece, but I am confused by the sizing. Apparently, it's only made in sizes 6-12 and I don't know what to do because I'm size 0-2....
