I'm sorry if a topic like this already exists, but I didn't find.
If you like to watch pictures from the past, of models/supermodels, you have probably noticed that in the 90's there were a "specific" makeup style. That's what i call "90's makeup"
It was quite flattering and sexy. And sometimes also too much, tacky.
I dunno i really enjoy that makeup (in a slighter way of course )
You can post here pictures of models with that kind of makeup (and also actresses, singers if you want (but young enough!))
Close up photos are really welcome!
Thanks!

One essential 1990's make up item to me is brown lipstick
Kevyn Aucoin wrote about 1990's make up in his book 'The Art of Makeup' :
Quote:
The 90's seem to be about individuality. (showing 7 different faces of model Beri Smither to illustrate this point) ..The many choices women gave open to them today. With a few changes- a bleached eyebrow, a metallic lip, a heavily lind lid, or brightly rouged cheek - Beri's look was altered drastically, and seven extremely different effects were achieved
So.. I'm not certain if I agree with there being a specific 90's makeup.. however.. the beauty models that were used in makeup campaigns in the 90ies overall.. strike me as having a more conventional beauty than a lot of the models used today..

There weren't only one style, but i think the pictures are going to show what kind of style i'm talking about. When i think supermodel i "see" this kind of makeup.
(it's too difficult for me to explain my feelings in english on this topic. sorry. )

And you're right.. it had a slight tint on pink/rose.. but to me it was the brown that dominated..
MAc has a large range of lipsticks in brown with a pink/rise tint - on the light side there is : Half 'n Half .. and a bit darker : Cosmo
I think you are referring to a more earthy color palette no?
Browns, taupes, different shades of earthtones.. not necessarily a minimalistic natural look.. because heavy lipstick and eyeliner is often involved..but a makeup that focuses on shading and accentuating features..plays with light and shadow..

..and stays away from bold colors..
I love Browns, taupes!

Early and mid 90's make up was about projecting strength and was so feminine. I love it. If I had to pick that one signature thing that said '90's' it would definitely be the brown/earth toned lipstick. There was a softness despite being dark. As someone said above, it was about shading and highlighting features.
But it started getting a little colder as the millennium approached. More purples, and metallic colors. When I look back on that part I can't help but think that it was a subtle expression of a dystopian, cyberpunk type world that was foreshadowed in Gibson and Phillip K. Dick books, the Matrix, etc. It was our own particular kind of fin de siècle anxiety.
Thanks for starting this thread! I have a special fondness for the 90's.
