Guys, have looked through the thread briefly (if I missed anything similar to my comment - apologies!)

Briefly, I am a nutritional therapist and do deal with skin complaints often.

If you do have problems, BEFORE you start using specific cosmetics (they can actually DRY your skin badly and make things worse) or pharmaceuticals (things like roaccutane have so many side-effects it's actually quite scary) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS look at your diet and lifestyle, also check if your periods are regular and if they aren't, go and see a doctor because there may be a slight hormonal imbalance, which may also cause skin problems. Also visit a nutritional therapist or a doctor and have tests for candida and liver function, as well as stool test, if any come back positive, deal with it, but consult a nutritionist/nutritional therapist on the programme that would be right for you. No DIY here is allowed.

Now, what you need to do...

FOR 1 MONTH (this is the minimum time period your skin needs to recover)
* avoid alcohol, soft drinks, anything containing caffeine
* drink 3-5 cups of green tea or white green tea (yes, it does contain caffeine, but less of it and it's also full of antioxidants). You can also drink 1-2 cups of fennel, mint or chamomile tea. If you fancy tea, go for redbush, it's delicious and caffeine free.
* drink 2 litres of fresh water daily
* start your day with a glass of water with a slice of fresh lemon in it (helps detoxification)
* avoid all refined carbs (white rice, white potatoes, white flour, sugar and anything containing sugar)
* have rye bread, brown rice, quinoa and oats/plain oatcakes for good carbs and fibre
* add 1tbsp ground flaxseed / linseed daily for good fats and fibre, always follow with a glass of water. Mix flax into yoghurt, it's easier to eat it this way.
* at least two of your meals must contains plenty of vegetables
* ideally, once a day you need to eat fresh salad (raw vegetables)
* your sweets are fresh fruits, a few dried fruits and 10g of very dark chocolate (if you lilke)
* eat oily fish 4 times a week
* avoid red meat of any kind, if you really want red meat, then either have venison or organic lamb
* have some chicken/turkey, ideally organic
* include sources of good fats: nuts (brazils, cashew, hazelnut, walnuts), olive oil, seeds (pumpkin are the best as they contain zinc), avocado. Hummus is alsoo a great addition.
* your fruits & veg should also be organic, ideally.
* have 1-2 eggs daily
* have 150-200g natural organic yoghurt or kefir daily. You can make smoothies by mixing fresh fruit, a little water and yoghurt.

And from personal experience I would also suggest using d'arsonval facial device AKA high frequency skin care device. Some are available for DIY and many salons use similar things, too. It basically helps to deal with bacteria on the skin surface, heal the skin itself by improving blood flow to the skin surface and also dries out little pimples.

Hope this helps.
x

The diet suggestions by LittleRus above are very good guidelines for everyone, in general.
It's also good not to use products that are too harsh on your skin. Stripping the acid mantle or drying out the skin too severely will only exacerbate the problem. It's worth the time and effort to check reviews and get a very good derm who has successfully treated a number of acne patients-- you'lll save yourself money on products in the long term. Check reviews on Yelp if it's in your area.

^yeah, that's why I'm considering the IUD way now.
I'm so fed up putting hormones in my body and it gives my face all the disagreable things you mentioned Kenysha so now I have to visit a dermatologist to get rid of that acne surge...

จจจ^Yeah finally I followed my instinct and felt like I did not need to pull all that hormones crap in my body and now I feel so much better
If I think of a nightmare that would be to be back on the pill seriously I will never mess with that again
My face was bloated with micro cyst someday I did not even want to wash my face

^I've tried it, it was ok but nothing spectacular. I didn't re-purchased it and didn't compete with Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion which I've bought almost 5-6 times in the past 5 years

Hey
Um,
I don't know whether this is helpful or not but I've been chatting to a representative of Model's 1 by email and I have some info that is great for all the girls with non ideal skin. If you want to be a model and you walked into an open call with spotty skin, they wouldn't turn you away because of a few spots and imperfections. They'd look past your imperfections and would hire you depending on whether you suit their criteria.

So much for a model to have "perfect" skin.

Good news for me!

Many models don't have perfect skin if you look close enough in the un photoshopped close ups!
Although some do (ie: melissa t!)

To people who are talking about the pill giving pimples. Try different pills until you find one thats right for you. Ortho Tri cyclen is "THE" acne birth control but I hear Yaz/Yasmin are amazing too (although they have a lawsuit against them right now...)

This sounds amazing! I'm so going to try this. Most of it shouldn't be too hard for me (like eating salad every day, not eating candy) but I have a few questions!

1. I'm a vegetarian. Can I replace meat/fish with i.e. tofu? I usually just marinate plain tofu with a little bit of olive oil, a little bit of mustard & salt & pepper.

2. Is black tea, such as earl grey, allowed? I LOVE tea, especially iced black tea (with no sugar or anything, just plain tea & ice cubes).
