I too have been doing this for a few years now. I always do it before I have a shower, I do however let the shower run as to make my bathroom steamy and warm whilst brushing. The little leaflet that came with my brush advised it.
If you are just starting you may want to test out a few brushes with different hardness.

I have been doing this for years on advice from my mother; it is really good for circulation! I buy my brushes at Boots because they have been very good quality in comparison to others I have tried.

It is recommended that you brush before you have a shower or bath. I know that the Japanese technique is to brush and then have a HOT bath, but it can take some getting used to.

It will hurt/feel rough for the first few mornings when you start doing it, but don't let that deter you from doing it every morning/regularly. You will soon get used to the feeling, and it will start to not hurt. I actually find it really soothing, which might sound odd.

Okay, so I did the dry body brushing tonight about 5 minutes before my shower. It wasn't too bad, a little bit rougher than I expected but my skin didn't flare up or react badly or anything. I'll stick with it and see how I go after a few weeks...

for those who have been dry body brushing for a few years - do you feel that it combats cellulite effectively? my problem area is around the back of my thighs!!

I received my body brush today and am looking forward to trying it out tonight. I bought mine online from ikou in Australia. I was going to get the Cactus Brush from The Body Shop, but it's a bit of a hike to get there.

There's also a 45 page long thread on dry body brushing on the Vogue Australia, though I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it or not?

I checked the rules, no links to other boards

But definitely have a look here, http://www.bodecare.com/site/index.php. It's where I bought my brush, they seem to specialise in body brushes. They've also got a lot of information about it in their resources section

I'd love to start body brushing, but I tried to do it with a regular IKEA brush, and found it really harsh. Maybe it was too hard for my skin? I'm planning on paying a visit to The Body Shop to see if they have softer brushes that may be better for me...

And also, how are you supposed to do it? Start with the legs and go upwards, always towards the heart, as with regular scrubbing?
