Pastels
Hey, I'm new here. Anyway, lately I've found that I've been drawn to pastels and very brightly coloured eye makeup (and clothes but this is the wrong forum for that) . I'm not sure why, but I totally love them. I want to try it out but I don't really know where to buy it and the places around my house don't have any (the best I got was Maybelline #130 Electric Blue) . Also, I don't what brands are good for those types of colours and if it will even look good on me. I have really dark hair, light skin and pink cheeks (yeah, great combo right? ) So, if you could suggest some brands, colors or just tell me "STOP!" that'd be great. Thanks!

Dunno if this helps, but IMO...

Nowadays, anything goes; There's no rules. Like, you don't have to be of "warm" skin tone to wear "warm" colors, etc. Just make sure it's not too shiny/shimmery or shocking for day-time use. At night, or in the absence of bright sunlight, you can don't have to worry so much about toning everything down.

You can always go to a department store such as Nordstroms and get ideas and advice from the make-up counter (like MAC, stila, Smashbox, Dior... for "younger" colors). I'd get a make-over, too; there, you can sample some of the spring/summer pastel color palettes that various brands have to offer.

Go to websites of cosmetics brands; some have step by step how-to sections on application. (for example: http://dior.com/pcd/International/JS...PL=831&pON=MAK

Tips from Francois Nars's book, 'Make Up Your Face' follows...

"....Using pastels automatically brings softness and a fresh, sweet quality to your face and features.... Because they're so simple to apply, pastels blend easily on any skin tone. You can apply them with your fingers, and their softness makes it hard to over do it; you wouldn't think to use pastels for sculpting or defining because they're so pale.... they're so feminine and unaggresive, and make you feel young [on older women]....

Pastels have a wider range of hue than you might think: apricot, straw yellow, muted gray, peach, lavender, lilac, baby blue, pale turquoise, pink, light green, and soft orange.... Any color works on eyes... in any season, as long as you like them.... Pastels can still give you a dramatic look: Add lots of dark mascara for contrast, like Twiggy did."

^Omg, I saw that ad in a mag. and I fell in love but for the life of me couldn't remember the name of the line or company! I just remembered Beyonce lookin' gorgeous as usual. Thank you so much for finding that!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check the mall out next time I'm down there.
I'm not familiar with Guerlen, but I'll check that out too.

Thanks again guys!

Hey if you like that Ad, I use Makeup forever loos eyeshadow for that effect, their colors are amazing
there's another brand called Nouba which is also as powerful (other brands tend to not show as clearly when u apply the colors)

You can use a brush to apply...i found that using my pinky is easier
