Pole dancing- a good form of fitness?
I hope there is no thread for this already, though I did the search. I've been thinking that I would try pole dancing. I recently found out there is a studio in our small town, and got very excited. Is here anyone who has tried? I see it as sport, I'd believe it' s hard, but fun fitness. I can't start gymnastic at my age, so maybe this would be good substitute + i love dancing. I really hope you guys share to me your opinions!

A friend of mine tried and she says it's really a lot of fun. I think you should try and see if you like it.

I just asked my friends on Facebook if anyone would like to go with me. But i've already decided i'll go on my own if no one wants to. And now I got a great excuse to buy new sport clothes,Ha haa.

It's a lot better to go with someone else than alone

Regardless if it's a good work-out, your man will be turned on by the fact that you're even doing it.

I know that it requires a lot of ab strength for many pole dancers to hoist themselves up and down, even lift their legs over their head for some poses. Yes, it is a great workout.

Yeah, my boyfriend already made very clear he has nothing against it he even asked if we should buy own pole to our apartment later. But maybe I will practise at first, and see if I ever learn it Next week will be my first class, I expect sweat, bruises and muscle ache.. Such a pity that none of my friends seems to be interested.

It's an amazing workout. You'll work muscles you didn't even know existed

Thank you all for your answers, i'm sooo excited about this, fun to share it with someone! I've spent whole day reading and watching videos about it. Some girls are so amazing, i wish I'll be half or maybe 1/4 good as them someday. I also found it very interesting that pole dancing is based on chinese circus acrobacy. This is the argument Im going to use if someone tries to make fun it's strip club backround!

I tried one class a few years ago, and I didn't particularly enjoy it. Most of the people in were elderly (lol), and the instructor said we could not wear sneakers, we had to wear heels, and lingerie/a nightie/something sexy, and I just wasn't comfortable with that. Most of the women in the class were wearing booty shorts, tanks, and 6 inch lucite heels and it was just too much.

I tried another one where the instructor was like, come as you are, and I had a fabulous time. Most everyone was in their twenties or thirties, and we just danced our little butts off. lol. We were encouraged to wear heels when we felt comfortable, and then we could work our ways up to more revealing attire just to get into the "mood". Haha.

I was worried about "the clothing policy", but on the website of studio they said one can wear what feels comfortable. Hot pants were recommended, and warm clothes for warm up. We finnish people are usually so shy, that I would be seriously suprised if someone would exercise wearing underwear and 10 cm heels we'll see, maybe I'm wrong. Obviously our culture has evolved since pole dancing has even succeed here :p

Now I'm pissed off! I called to the studio today to assign my friend to class with me. I assigned myself on saturday. Well, the owner/instructor was really hazy (asked me is it wednesday today) and told me she tought to cancel tomorrow's classes. I didn't catch the reason, she'll have a performing tonight and something. It was totally bad image for them. I was like, when were you going to inform us about cancelled class... Now i have to wait until next week, bah. Teaching is better be excellent. I found out the owner is couple years younger than me, maybe she hasn't realize yet how business works.
