Anatomy student, yes? I was, till I swtiched to Business. Yeah, your cervix is 4 inches long but you probably can't go all the way up it.

This has always been one of my biggest fears, losing a tampon inside your body. And I actually thought this was a myth. Guess I was wrong...

I have always used OB, but I'm thinking about changing since they leak a bit. I don't want to use the 'super' ones, they look like champagne corks!

You definitely can't lose a cup or tampon inside you. And for those who are grossed out by the idea of cups, tampons are doing the exact same thing, the fluids are just inside the tampon.

But, each to their own. I think every woman has to find what she's most comfortable with.

Pads are vile..they make you smell automatically...I don't know what those feminine hygiene companies are thinking. Re-usable pads are way better and they don't make you reek..plus it's cheaper in the longrun and better for the environment...

I think these cups sound like a good method...
but I'd be afraid they would be very hard to remove.

They can go up making it hard to get out, but you can remove them yourself, if not, go see your doctor.

If ever one does get stuck, try squatting down, relaxing your muscles as much as possible (difficult when you're freaking out about having something stuck inside you), then insert two fingers and you will probably be able to just grab the end of the tampon/cup and remove it.

Or some women find it easier laying on their backs, maybe raising their hips by sticking their butt on a pillow.

But in the end, if it's just too much trouble, just go see your doctor. You won't be the first woman they've had come in needing a tampon removal.

I use Kotex. I like the easy and smooth applicator. I also like Tampax pearl. I have cardboard applicator tampons and sometimes that stuff seems like a chore. Two months ago I was looking for a bargain so I purchased a Tampax knockoff. I really have to give that box away or something the tampons don't fit--literally it's too large. I tried different angles just to get the tampons in! No it's not me it's the tampons they're too long and didn't fit in completely. I tried OB tampons but couldn't get the hang of it. I still have some unused OB tampons from maybe two or three years ago.

I switched from pads to tampons when I was 18. I liked the convenience plus I felt like I was a "woman" and needed to upgrade myself from pads to tampons. But I still think pads are healthier than commercial tampons. I read the label and warnings of toxic shock syndrome. It's a little scary but the chances of having toxic shock syndrome increases when tampons are left in for more than 8 hours. That's why I try to change tampons within 6-8 hours. 7 or 8 years ago I watched the news and the dangers of toxic shock syndrome was a featured report and one lady had toxic shock syndrome and lost an arm and part of her leg due to the complications. It scared me then and now but I don't want to believe that can happen to me. It's rare and the likelihood of having toxic shock syndrome are low.

I keep incidents like this in my head--because you never know. You just can't be certain. But for the most part I'm still staying with tampons and once my batch of Kotex and Pearl tampons are done I'll start using healthy and "organic" tampons.

^ I was actually in hospital with TSS September last year. I didn't lose any limbs, thank God, but I did have complications with my lungs and heart, which was quite scary at the time.... but I'm all good and back to normal now.

I have never left my tampons in longer than 8 hours, but what caused me to get TSS was because I used one of the extra absorbency tampons on the first day of my period. So basically, I think it was too big for me + too dry (?), and may have scratched the inside of me causing bacteria to enter my bloodstream. So, remember to always use the lowest absorbency that you need.

I don't use tampons anymore as people who have had TSS have a doubled chance of getting it again, so I'm stuck with pads and I hate, hate, hate pads!! They are so uncomfortable, and because I'm very petite, even the thin/small ones make me feel like I'm wearing a diaper But oh well... at least I'm alive now, right?

gross!!! applicator tampons all the way!!
You're not the only one...
I also know I'd be so worried it'd spill everywhere....seeing as though it's not actually being absorbed by anything, it's just sitting there. But I guess I won't know until I try them.

And I like the idea of things being disposable rather than having to re-use the one thing (bad I know). Are there disposable cups? =I'm thinking maybe i will need to go on the pill and make it like so I only get my period half the amount as I usually would, limiting my exposure to gross uncomfortable pads.
