The thing with vitamins is that any extra intake ends up...in your urine. You basically pee any excess out So there's no reason to be scared of OD'ing
A lot of vitamins need minerals in order to be effective. For example Vitamin C increases the body's assimilation of iron, which is why taking iron supplements isn't always effective (if you don't get vit c, that is).
Um...well....ackshully...FAT SOLUBLE vits like A stay in the body a long time and yes, there are consequences from too much vit A...like LIVER DAMAGE, bone pain, hair loss.....
Iron is not recommended as a supplement for men or postmenopausal women unless prescribed by a Dr...too much can cause real problems.

ACTUALLY...you need to eat A LOT of fatty meats to get Vit A overdose. It's close to impossible. Same with Vit E, also fat soluble. You need to eat A LOT of dairy and eggs. Pretty damn hard to get those amounts. So there's no need to worry, that would be stupid and unnecessary.
Iron is recommended as a supplement in DK, they know what they're doing. Again, it's hard to get too much of it (unless you eat around 4-5 capsules a day, but then you'd have to be stupid). Never happens. And even if you OD, it's not that fatal.
So...yeah, there's nothing to worry about. You need A LOT of the fat soluble vitamins to OD. Practically never happens (unless you're stupid and pop them like candy, of course).

i think the best thing for everyone is to go to a doctor and see what supplements they need. because i know everyones body is different and whilst someone may have an deficiency for some others may not..but yeah it is pretty hard to OD on vit A!
I have really deep horizontal ridges on my nails (especially my thumbs). I have no idea how they came by, but I think it's from all the layers of nail polish I have been suffocating my nails with. Does anybody else have this problem too? Have supplements and vitamins helped?

I used to get ridges, but they werent too bad, I started taking Biotin (its for hair and nails) and it really helped, my nails are strong and the ridges are completley gone. It also helps my hair, its stronger than it used to be
^Thank you! My body really does deserve to have some more B vitamins! I do have a problem with my fragile hair... They drop out so easily. My nails could do with the treat! I will pick up some Biotin on my next trip to the pharmacy. Are there any potential side effects that I should be aware of?
Because it's winter, to keep my skin moisturised from the inside out and my blood thin in the cold, I decided to get a good array of omega-3 oils direct from the foodsources - plenty of oily fish and nuts - only to break out in the type of spots I'd thought I'd left behind twenty years ago.
Turns out that if you have a high intake of omega-3 in your diet as well as any hydrogenated fat, the combination promotes inflammation in the body, due to the way the body decides to process the fats. So it seems it's not enough to eat healthily, you have to be ruthlessly healthy to get the most from it.
That said, I've neve experienced this when taking fish/vegetable oil capsules. I always thought the effects would never be as good as eating the actual food itself, but if that's going to include acne, the capsules are a welcome short-cut.

MSM and Vitamin C supplement said to do wonders for skin, hair and nails
... I'm experimenting with 1000mg MSM a day (along with 1000mg Vitamin C in order for it to work better. They're synergistic). Just want to see if MSM can live up to its claim; such as stronger and softer hair, healthier nails and glowy blemish-free skin. It seems like every beauty forum I go to, there is always a handful of women raving about this supplement. I'm really hoping for that MSM will 'cure' my brittle hair and nails!
Plus it is being said that Vitamin C taken in higer doses calms the skin and makes scars and blemishes heal faster
"MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane), is a nutritional ORGANIC form of sulfur. It is a natural occurring vital nutrient, which is lost through the processing of our food. MSM is not a drug, herb or stimulant. It is completely safe, odorless, and non-toxic." Source: Aomega
Basically, MSM gets rid of the toxins and repairs each and every cell of your body.
I use a herbal thing called priorin that I get from Switzerland whenever I am there. It works wonders for me.
