Curling boots...
I was just curious if this is a Swedish/Scandinavian phenomena? I've never seen them outside Sweden. They're classics here. Very, very warm and practical, but not trendy in any way. People wear them because they keep you warm, period. Clarks, Bally and a few others does/used to do them.

Do you recognize this style?

Never seen them before.

Are they called curling boots because they curl, or are they related to the Scottish sport of 'curling'?

I imagine it's connected to the sport of curling?

According to wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curling , Sweden plays curling, so that would make sense.

They're rather handsome.

Really?! I have Bally Curling Boots and I know quite many who have either Bally or Clarks. They are the best shoes for the Finnish winter!!

frannie how can you live in canada and not be familiar with curling?

My province is HUGE on curling....though i don't think you could actually wear shoes like that to curl.

The first time curling was introduced as an olympic sport (in 98?) both mens and womens were cdn and the womens are all from my hometown.

Thanks for your support, softie, .f and PoC...

They are super warm, helena... One of the best shoes for those really, really cold days.

They just "are" to me, I find it hard to judge them objectively. They are sort of shapeless clumps really, aren't they? Sort of like babies shoes.

Maybe I should buy some... With my mittens-on-a-string, cashmere cap, curling boots and puffy down jacket I could successfully recreate the toddler look.
