This was very big in menswear also, I posted it here.
It's a great look.

Belted everything seems more like the trend this season to me , but yes, it's especially lovely in outwear, I love those thin, brown leather belts, they're so classic and make an outfit more interesting.. Tahari, Fendi and Pollini's are my favorites.

there's definitely a sort of artful look to this when it's done right...

and i think what's cool about it is that it's all about the individual styling and something sort of instinctual...
the designer can't really tell you how to do it "right"
you have to use your own eye...

and this is something everyone can do without going out and buying the new hot thing...
recession creativity perhaps? :p

yeah- def a trend on the runways...
and one i really like...

but i always think about -
what do you do when you get where you're going and you have to take the coat (and belt) off...?
what do you do with the belt...?
and then when you leave- you have to get it back on again just right---
usually without the benefit of a mirror this time...

quite a trick in real life...

I was thinking the same thing, I really like this style and it looks great on the runway and it will look great in editorials but it's not that practical (I've tried it)

that's my only concern.. but it is pretty

Lol, you remind me of me. I wore a coat belted, and when I got to where I was going I didn't know what to do with the belt. so I rolled it up and put it in my bag.
My great uncle showed me what you do with a scarf when you go out... take of the scarf before you take of the coat. hold it in one hand and when you pull your arm out of the coat you would have pulled it through so it's placed in the arm and you can't really lose it. I don't know if this would work with a belt but it's worth a try.

I think that the best idea is to but the belt in your bag or just hang it on the coat rack.
