^ like a bape?

I have this vintage UMass sweatshirt that I have always worn from time to time. it's really old but the cut of it is so cool. I would love to find more but the new ones I see always look too... new

but yes I agree, it's entirely possible to make a sweatshirt look cool... they can be voluminous or slouchy and definitely add an unexpected element - when the rest of the outfit isn't so casual.

i know it sounds odd but i've been wearing my dad's sweatshirts (more like thin sweaters) lately. just the regular grey knitted ones. i just pair them with skinny jeans when i'm too lazy to think of what to wear in the morning (i sound soo lazy.......) i love how they're so slouchy and comfortable (and they keep me warm from the ac at work!)

i have the american apparel one too!! but i put it in the wash once and it stretched like crazy

i also agree that the sweatshirt never really went away...it just wasn't considered "trendy"

i had always rejected sweatshirts as too ugly for consideration, until a few years ago. but something about the plain-ness is appealing these days. i wear sweatshirts all the time around the house now, and sometimes outside, but i draw the line at sweatpants i love my aa sweatshirt.

i have a sweatshirt that my ex-mother in law embroidered with a book worm (she's big into her baby luv machine). it gets a lot of compliments oddly enough.

i love how kate lanphear wore her sweatshirty shirt. i think it's the aa one?

I love this trend! Its so chic yet comfortable but it has to be styled well.
When I think about this trend, this image comes into my mind instantly:

Perhaps Kate started it, once again? This pic was taken already last year...

some of these pictures of sweatshirts just look like heather grey long sleeved tees.

i really like the concept though. i wouldve laughed at wearing a crewneck sweatshirt a few years ago. now im intrigued.

dark shadow has an amazing collection of thin fleece sweatshirts this season. the jackets have enormous hoods and long thick ties and the shirts have some subtle draping in the neck with asymmetric seams all over the place.

I like sweatshirts when they are worn not sloppy but more cozy creative.

I have enjoyed mixing in a sweatshirt into my outfits for a while now. The comfort and thinness of the American Apparel tri-blend pullover is especially good for layering. I have four now. I'll probably end up buying dozens more, I can't get enough!

I think a gray sweatshirt is essential. I started wearing them freshman year in high school, almost four years ago. They look good with jeans, dresses, whatever (as the previous pictures show). When buying, I think it's important to get a relaxed fit with the right length. The somewhat thin and slouchy fabric looks best.

I've always loved this.. I think it gives a great contrast when it's combined with something fancy, it kind of gives this effortless chic style when styled right

adore...i am afraid i have to agree with the above poster...
most of those pics are very thin sweaters...not sweatshirts at all

and it is a completely different effect to wear a CREW NECK FLEECE SWEATSHIRT..
*and for the person who doubted-*was it meg?
the YSL is indeed FLEECE...which you can see in the pic adore posted-though it's harder to tell from the runway shot...

the american apparel pullovers that everyone is talking about seem really cute..
they aren't fleece though, are they?...
they seem MUCH thinner...
which i am sure is actually much cuter on...

a real thick fleece sweatshirt is a bit trickier to pull off in a flattering way imo...

*ie- i am sure that the far left pic in the first post is actually quite miserable to wear in real life...
it looks ok for the pic...
but i bet the sleeves of the sweatshirt are all bunched up and bulky under the narrow chanel jacket...
not the most comfortable thing to wear ......

i don't think the christopher kane runway look is very attractive or flattering..
very boxy and bulky in fact...

but at least it's the real deal...and not some facsimile...

^ yes, the aa ones don't have any fleece at all. just jersey (their tri-blend, to be exact) in a sweatshirt shape.

thanks quimby...
that sounds like the best bet then imo...
you get the classic sweatshirt shape...with a slightly updated neckline and in a fabric that drapes the body in a more flattering way...

*clearly i am late on this one...
so many of you already seem to have jumped on this aa train...
gonna have to try to catch up...

thanks for enlightening me...
