Catwalk Trends S/S 2012
There seem to be quite a few typical Spring/Summer trends out in the collections from NYC, such as White, Floral and Neon

But I feel that there are also not so cliche trends coming through:

Unusually graphic prints
- clashing colours and ideas, echoing Miucca Prada's 'Minimal Baroque' from last spring.

Preen

Acid - extremely vibrant yellows and greens

I am really in love with the acid yellow and hope it will become a big trend.

I'm seeing...

Geometric prints (stripes, tribal, angular shapes) but also geometric cuts and garment shapes - lot's of boxiness, asymmetry, angles....

......But in contrast, there's a very loose, relaxed sporty trend too! Lots of sportswear influence from fabrics to shapes to very blatant jersey pants.

Pastel colours are looking cute, while block navy with highlights of other blues, oranges and yellow look strong.

print and texture clashing looks popular too - almost anything goes!!

Block colour is unfortunately in force again, but I'm bored of it now!

There's also a very nice demure and ladylike feel to lots of it - geek chic too. Lots of sensible skirt lengths and high necklines!

I'm seeing a lot of one sleeved dresses/shirts.
That god awful fuchsia has been popping up everywhere, it makes me want to die.

Intricately-printed silk pants are definitely an upcoming trend, some of this fashion week's attempts are incredibly beautiful.

Acid Yellow S/S 12
Quite the contrast to the insipid pastel colours dominating the catwalks, the brightest, most stinging yellow has also been spotted everywhere.

Tactile Prints
I find it quite an exciting idea - prints that have a sort of depth to them; they're bright and graphic and pleasing to the eye but also interesting to touch.

At Jil Sander: From a distance you cannot see the texture of this fabric the print has been applied to. Compare it to the photograph beside it where the print is applied to a much flatter fabric.

Indeed, the idea of being closer to the piece to experience the print including texture seems to be the basis of the idea.

I agree with yellow. It was also seen in Milan and has now showed up in Paris, not in overwhelming quantity but I definitely think it will be a trend next season.

White seems to have also reached Parisian shores, in all shapes and forms but mostly, I think it's about thin/tissue layers and asymmetric cuts.

Fringes. (mostly in Paris)
Feathers.

Illustrations/photography in garments.

Mermaid dresses
. Dresses in slim cut that just fall on the body, in thin, shiny, wet-like fabrics and spaghetti straps. Very 90s.

.. and of course knee lengths. Long and uber short skirts seem to be getting replaced by skirts/dresses that are just above the knee or barely past it.

And of course, the "groundbreaking florals for spring".

One thing about these florals as well as other patterns that we've been seeing and that I find interesting is that the approach this time seems to be strongly distanced and urban as opposed to actually integrating elements that denote appreciation for the countryside, I find it hard to explain but I think that this craving for a quieter, more natural living projected through collections until last season seems to have almost vanished this time.. I think there's a bit of self-introspection going on right now and finding creativity within the limits of our reality.. not necessarily urban for all, but I don't think that looking like you just came out of the fields is that desired anymore (may Lula fold now- HA!). I thought the Dries Van Noten collection yesterday presented lots of this things, I especially found the detailing on this coat quite endearing.. it's a creative, humble touch to an otherwise classic coat.
