Combining Patterns S/S 06
I've been skimming through the ss 06 photos and have noticed alot of combining of different patterns. Its been coming through slowly since ss 05. Whats your personal opinion on mixing patterns and putting them together? Will you be wearing multiple patterns/prints this spring/summer?

(forgive me if this has been previously posted)

i like the mix of prints in one outfit and probably you are right on quick spotting the trend breath..

to be honest its not an easy job mixing patterns without ending up with a disaster, much more since it is basically a street trend catching up on catwalks,
it can be interesting but it demands skills and great personal taste

Thanks for starting this thread Breathe. This should be interesting to discuss as it's very subjective and it will change from person to person if they feel something looks right. I completely agree with what Lena said. Mixing patterns is dangerous

Herchcovitch's Spring/Summer 06 collection was overloaded with patterns. Sometimes more than my radar was able to handle. But there definitely were some nice combinations, esp the ones with the checkered fabric I liked.

UK Elle was very exited about the "big mix" already for this summer, I'm sure it will be stronger ss06

I like it when the mix is two different graphic patterns like the top one, the other stuff looks too busy. Gives me a bit of a headache .

^Me too! Pattern mixing is not really that tricky. In fact, the more daring you are, it actually looks better. But as a starting rule, sticking to a similar colour palette with the patterns makes it easier.

I like mixing flower prints and stripes at the moment. Or different geometric prints in contrasting colours.

agreed susie !
i personally hate flowery prints & patterns & mostly avoid them
so if i am mixing patterns they're almost always geometric

excellent posts perlefine, love the way AH mizes the two floral prints together
personally, i much prefer a mix of florals than a mix of florals and geometrics

go for it susie and i<3chanel, improvisation is the key

It really depends on the execution. Say,Dries Van Noten's richly, contrasting patterns each season actually works. I think Herchovitch took a step too far though...it's a bit overwhelming.

I am for it if it's done well, but don't expect I will be doing it myself as I am (unusually) in the mood for solids ... I guess I am secretly into minimalism

I can't mix patterns to save my life, or maybe I am just not daring enough to attempt this.
But I love to see people wearing this, it takes real style to pull it off!

I agree completely that you have to have a really good style sense to do this. I can imagine how bad this is going to be if it catches on.
