i'm honestly kind of getting really into the crop top thing for this summer...

this picture is from a few months ago but i wore basically the same thing today with no necklace and more open shoes -- i think it's kind of fun and sexy and i feel a lot more comfortable with the higher-waisted jeans and a strip of upper belly showing than i EVER did in low-rise pants, probably because i'm a bit pear-shaped and most of my height/length is in my torso and i have a really high navel. i think for girls with a flat tummy and broad shoulders/wide hips it can work pretty well...

though i think as mentioned before a super short t-shirt can look great over a bodycon dress without showing any stomach! like a sportier less-mid-2000's bolero jacket.

Crop top
Just head back from a journey around Latin America (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) doing some trend research, and what it grabbed my attention , alongside the extremely long hair in every girl, was the comeback of the crop top. Any thought if this is something to watch?

Crop Tops especially midriff baring ones are ONLY and I repeat ONLY for the young and slim. When combined with long hair, crop tops on a slender girl can look bohemian and free spirited, however things can go wrong with the slightest diversion from this rule...

^ Wholeheartedly agree!
most women do not have a midriff that they could (should) show proudly. Kinda like muscle shirts for guys, they look on someone with flabby or gangly arms.
Besides I think showing skin there is a bit on the sluttish side (JMO), bohemian style and great physique or not. I'm still not over the last time fashion world decided to force people to show their bellies and it's been like 10 years or so.

I do agree with you 2; crop top is limited for the lucky ones. Although the trend was more of a crop just about when the skirt or jean started – more of a short floaty vest, not showing belly. It was a very bohemian chic style and look fab on most of them.
Thanks for the thoughts!

The whole cropped thing really inspired me lately. I've designing cropped tshirts, jackets etc. I'm more into asymetrical cropping tough. (hmm... I mean longer in the back than in front, or actually playing with lengths)
But its funny this is becoming a trend. I remember being 9, and wearing my cropped dkny sweater.

They only work if they're not clingy (tight ones just look a bit tarty). Also, where exactly they're cropped makes a HUGE difference to how they look- they HAVE to come down to a fair way below the chest (Rihanna and Jessica Szohr in #37 are good illustrations of why you shouldn't wear it too short).

Also, it's best to show only a sliver of midriff. Which basically----> high waisted bottoms.

I have a few that I wear with high waisted shorts/pants/skirts - I love that they are so comfortable! But you know... I confess, every time I say cropped top... an image of Britney Spears circa 2000 comes to mind.
