April 3, 2008 – What's the connection between Japanese slasher flicks and Edgar Degas? Rodarte. The Mulleavy sisters' graphic show juxtaposed spiked shoes and bloodred dyes with the sort of full, lacy tutus seen in the French Impressionist's studies of ballet dancers. "Degas was a master at depicting movement," Kate Mulleavy says. Ballerina-ready tutus also took the stage at Alexander McQueen and Ralph Lauren this season. At Zac Posen and Comme des Garcons, meanwhile, the look was more Moulin Rouge (ΰ la Henri Toulouse-Lautrec) than Giselle.

–Laird Borrelli-Persson
It's actually a nice antidote to the strictness and severity that dominated the season, and while it kind of lacks a sense of reality, it's extremely fun to look at. :p

This article popped on elle today ! It's about collaborations between ballet companies and designers.

When I saw the title of the thread I think of Rodarte instantly.

I think Chanel spring haute courture is very ballet ..but obviously wrong season.

^ I so agree about Chanel HC, and surprisingly a lot of that collection was more realistic looking than some of this RTW.

I do have to say though, Rodarte is my favorite. Their murderous sugarplum fairy collection captured Edgar Degas perfectly, but there was enough edge to keep it from being too sweet.

I know those studded Louboutins , I really like Rodarte as designers I get the impression that they really live and feel their loves , they come across as so dreamy and really wrapped up in their own world. I like the story of how they came to New York with all their wares

Perhaps they could be the Odile shoes !

Oh I love fashion inspired by Ballet. I recently saw Giselle and fell in love. It is fascinating to see an influx of Ballet inspired clothing amongst the designers!

I love when this happens. Ballet is the one thing I love more than fashion. I get so excited when I see ballet inspired eds too. I know it can be tacky if worn or styled too literally but i really don't mind that either. It only bothers me if they try to pose the model in ballet positions and she doesn't do it right. Thank you for the pictures posted.

Rodarte was the best collection of the season, it was absolutely amazing and very original. i really think of ballet as an influence of that collection. I think this ballet thing is very good when its done right, not too girly or whatever, and i think Rodarte really summed it up.

I love ballet. My favorite pieces are the Rodarte ones, and the McQueen dress on Lily. And of course the shoes at Rodarte are to die for.

first, thanks for making this wonderful thread

I agree with you, this is extremly beautiful and fun to look at.. because it's not just clothes, it's more art and it gives u a feel like there's a story to it..

imo the only downside with these clothes (rodarte is what I'm talking about, which is amazing and easily one of the best collections of the season) is that they look amazing in editorials and on the runway but it's extremly difficult to translate it into real life outfits that looks good.. not many have suceeded in that
