ETA; as for the skinhead look i find it very unappealling. i was a child who grew up in germany in the 80 and 90s and a non german so even though well protected one can just imagine what i associate with this "trend"
i did however sport a green bomber cos it did somehow become a must have back then. dont ask how... ??
Oh I know you aren't! Pete, Amy, et al are laughable if not somewhat disgusting to see how such individuals make money from a 'can't be arsed' image and pretend they are all 'working class' - if you want to see working class look at the Gallagher brothers from Oasis. But Pete, Amy et al are ****ed up for the sake of...well, not being ****ed up basically, lol.

I really like the girl's hair who is blonde in the film! And the skinhead look is quite grotesque but in a way that it actually DOES look bloody cool. So I guess I am a fan of the skinhead look.

There is "English style" and then there is the style depicted in "This is England" which is skinhead style. I think everyone just got confused Innocent Fairy, with the pic of Pete. Neither Amy Winehouse nor Pete are skinheads. At least as I see it.

I really think we should call this the Skinhead style thread or something else. Or colon it as This is England: Skinheads Style etc.

This is one the pics for my photo shoot for my MA Fashion Journalism course, I based it on social realism and my own working class childhood alongside the memories I have of skinheads and punks. Just thought I would share, as I am quite proud seeing as it was my first task!

I agree, but if anything, it is more 'REAL' (not glamourised) 'working class style'...don't ya think? :p

I see Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty as taking aspects of English culture and appropriating them. I mean Amy for example takes influence from the Ronettes and skinhead fashion.

InnocentFairy, more pics!! Looks great.
And yes Pete and Amy are more 'real' and working class, but they like ApertureRomance says mix a lot of other references and styles.

And Amy has always said she likes being girly and glamour and can be very 50s/60s in her clothing and style, which to me doesn't seem very much like a skinhead esthetic/way of thinking. Although both of them do the whole Fred Perry and braces thing. So yes I agree with all of you. Although I'm going to reclaim the Ronettes as American.

I'm a bit confused because the skinhead-subculture isn't the only subculture which had its origin in the english working class. The Mods and Teds for example developed from english working class, too. So I wouldn't equate english working class style with skinhead-style.
